Grouping objects to change scale

Hi team, todays issue concerns grouping objects so changes can be made to that group rather than doing them one at a time.

So, I want to reduce the size of a hand. I can select each bone and make changes to scale but there are 17 items in each hand, rather laborious. Google has shown me how to group objects but when I do and then apply changes, either nothing happens or still only one bone will change. I've tried choosing different options when creating the group but cannot get it to work properly. If I Parent Selected Items to new group It appears at the top with the whole charcter as children to it. If I choose Target New Group with Selected items it appears at the bottom on its own but some of the fingers are deformed and trying to change scale does not work.

Many thanks

Malc

Bones aren't separate nodes that can be assigned to groups or reparented (with standard tools, you can chnage the bone hiearchy with the Joint Editor tool) - bones are always children of a figure node. You can multi-select items - including bones - and scale them all at once, however.

  • Hi again Richard, I'm sensing in trend in the Clever Dickies here... :)

I've tried that, selected from Left Hand down to Left Pinky 3 but when I Scale, Rotate, or whatever, only the Left Pinky 3 moves. Odd...?

Wait! Just tried again. I had them selected in scene view only, they have to be selected in the Parameters Tab! Boom!

    Many thanks

Once you select them in the Scene tab, you also have to select them in the Parameters tab. Then they'll move together.

That's because of the settings in the Parameters pane option menu - if you have Consolidate Properties on and Display Separate Items off then just selecting in the Scene pane will work - the option menu is the lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab..

  • Sorry about the delay Richard. All understood my friend, many thanks.
