Moving DS install location

Hello!

 

I´m planning to move my complete DS 4.11 installation to a new ssd drive to speed up saving / loading times and improve my workflow in general.

Since i have a fairly big content library which i´ve organised in my own custom categories i would prefer not to reinstall everything and i´m looking for a safe way to backup and move everything without causing trouble.

When you search the internet about that topic you come up with a lot of confusing and - even more important - different answers on how do that. So i would like to ask here for some practical advise about what files and folders exactly i should backup and copy over to the new directory to keep my database and especially my customised categories.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you may come across different answers because things have chnaged. Currently the database uses relative paths, so just moving the content and pointing DS to the new content directories will work. Install Manager does have to store absolute paths in its manifests files, so those either need editing or you can chnage the paths, select all the Installed files, right-click, and reisntall (which should not touch your user categories). I would of course strees the wisdom of backing up the database (the Content Cluster directory set in Edit>Preferences>CMS Settings) first (with DS closed).
