I'm using Daz studio 4.5

I had to reinstall everything since my harddrive died, and redownloaded and installed my shaders since the backup of them wasn't working, but redownloading and reinstalled the pw shaders (toon, ghost, effects) for DS 4 version, and it's STILL not working.

I got a solid mass of color when I render, no special shader effects.

How do i make them work??

Ah, The problem is DS4.5, the new version of pwEffects (IE) in Products is Updated for DS4.6. And the DS4.0 version also will not work in DS4.5 only the version for DS4.5 will run in DS4.5. Maybe a Help Ticket is in order to see if that version can be had for you.

Back up's my dear, that's how I figured it out. Save Files that could change when the Scripting and Render Engine change, things like shaders and Plugins can and will stop working as things get updated.

That is a Bummer, sorry for the loss. I use two Externals and Burn DVD's for back up. Redundant but it has saved me more than once.

i could not afford that many backups right now....and dvds don't go far enough when you have so much to backup :(

13 and counting, will be 14 when the back up of 7 finishes. You inspired me.

Is there anything stopping you from updating to 4.6? If you've backed up your 4.5, you could update and test it, and if you suddenly lose any important functionality you can revert.

For what it's worth, 4.6 has been good for me.

ADDENDUM: Ooops, I reread your post and realize you'd tried 4.6, sorry; was it the latest version? What sorts of things didn't work?

As the software progresses, it'll probably be more important to upgrade, so maybe finding a way to get it working rather than the PW plug-ins might be more worthwhile.

Maybe your hard-drive didn't die and had a virus/trojan. Some can make it look like your hard-drive died when they start messing things up and Windows refuses to finish loading drivers. That has happened to me and you can get them from visiting innocent looking sites and not know it. You only find them if you do a full scan. If you got them when you were in admin mode, they will be harder to remove. If you setup a separate user account and use that to surf the web, they will usually be easier to remove from admin mode with Microsoft Security Essentials (free and very effective at removing threats that can sneak by any monitor). (My computer once was attacked by a virus on an ad that was running on the Renderosity site a year or two ago (virus monitor won!), they have since started new procedures to prevent non-scanned ads from running.)

Virus/Trojan activity can mess with other programs (by hijacking required library elements in Windows) and could be why DAZ Studio 4.6 didn't work for you. That is another reason I often doubt some unique bug claims because so many who have unique bug issues really have system issues like not doing a full scan for threats, cleaning vents, updating video drivers, etc.
