Using CPU with GPU to prevent memory overflow?

My single lonley GPU often runs out of memory when rendering on GPU only, so this led me to wonder, if you have both the CPU and GPU rendering at the same time, does this mean that technically the GPU will not overflow on memory because it hands of some of the work to the CPU?

Thanks

@mastacheifa119, Welcome to the crazy world of Daz Studio and the Daz Forums.

To answer your question, no, I'm sorry to say that's not how Iray works. sad

All of the uncompressed scene must fit on the Nvidia video memory, or the GPU will be bypassed and the entire scene will be rendered by the CPU.

There's a great little utility to help you monitor your video card, memory used, and a host of other things: GPU-Z  I use this whenever I have Daz Studio open.
