A good computer for DAZ rendering?

What computer is the best for Daz3D and Iray rendering that won't break my bank? I know nothing about computers and ram and all that, so I don't even know what to look for in a computer that would qualify for that. Would I need certain extra graphics cards or something?

These are some of the computers I'm looking at. Can someone let me know which of these would work the best with rendering in Daz? And please let me know if I would need to buy any extra graphics cards or software that might cost me extra. I'm trying to do a cost-benefit analysis.

Also, if you have another suggestion, so long as it's in the $600 range, I am willing to consider.

  • I'm no expert, but I've been looking into this myself. The consensus is: more cores. That is the key to fast renders. You are not going to get. an optimum machine for $600.

    Hi :)

The most important thing is to have a good Nvidia GPU in order to use Iray. You really care about CPU cores only if you are going to use 3Delight (that old engine that was used a lot before Iray came around).

I've tried to explain a lot of things here, you may take a read and if you have other questions quote me :D

I believe ValKyrie must have meant cuda cores (which are the cores in your GPU/graphics card), not cpu cores. As kameneko mentioned, assuming you will be rendering with Iray, cpu cores are not the factor. Your render speed and capacity will be determined by your graphics card- get a good Nvidia GPU. Of the 3 computers you listed, the only one that seems to even have a GPU is that one from Best Buy...but even still that GTX 1050 GPU won't be able to handle much with Daz so rendering will often fall back on to your CPU. Which means rendering will still be possible, it will just be much slower. And so if you purchase a computer with no GPU at all it will be the same situation...doable just much slower (I used Daz for a while on a Microsoft Surface with no GPU). The other factor that will affect you while working with Daz is system memory. If you can, get at least 12-16 GB of memory, which is what your computer will be using while you work in Daz, building and arranging your scene, prior to the actual rendering.

  • Thanks for your input, everyone! You helped me reach my choice, after much dithering.  Although, since I have been using a Toshiba Satellite from over five years ago until now, I think anything will be an improvement. Lol.????

There will definitely be an upgrade, but this update may vary a lot according to your GPU!

Remember that only Nvidia GPUs can use Iray, and you want to have enough VRAM, otherwise you would use your CPU anyway (that is, in my case, 20 times slower...). A good choice would be a laptop (since you don't want a desktop, that would be much better in terms of value) with a GTX 1060 6Gb or a GTX 1050 Ti 4Gb at least! ^^
