Thoughts on "Post Denoiser Denoise Alpha"

What are people's thoughts on this option in the rendering tab. After doing a quick comparison of it on and off, I didn't notice anything in particular. With it on, I noticed a 3% increase (3 seconds) in time for the render to be completed.

For higher quality render, should this setting be left on or off?

Thanks.

I'm using the external version, and it's great!

The problem is that you just need to use it once, otherwise it has a lot of artifacts, it slows down your renders and you there's no improvement if you use it on more than one iterations.

So, in the beta you can enable the post denoiser, and with a separate action you can activate it, setting the starting iterations.

This is what I would do:

    • Or you just enable it, without activating it, and you just activate it in the render windows at the end of the process for one iteration (there's a column there, opened by clicking on the center left).
    • Or, if you use Batch Render/Render Queue, set the total iteration number to 1000, for example, and let the post denoiser start at 999.

In any case, it removes a lot of noise, and you don't need the old noise filter anymore.

If it's like Pixar's denoiser then its a new algorithm specifically for Alpha maps.

A tree with masked out leaves would be a good test.

Pixar also has an algorithm specifically for denoising Volumetric lighting, perhaps we'll see that next.

    Hi!

Thanks for the info! Can you please share the screenshot with this button to do a post-render denoise? I can't find it.
