Hello out there!
Does someone know if I could use the DSON Editor (http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/dson-editor)
for converting old DAZ Files to DUF?

I don't imagine so, they are completely different formats, and they don't use the same method of storing information. The .DAZ format heavily relies on the data folder, DUF not so much.
The easiest way, would be to load a .DAZ file, and then save it out as a DUF, have you tried that?
Sure I did, I just thought it could be possible to do a bunch conversion with tat program.
...so what exactly does this do? Is it to assist with loading Gensis/G2 into Poser?
It allows you to edit DUF & DSF files in an easier less risky environment than using a text editor.
That doesn't really explain what it would be used for. IOW, why would you need to edit DUF or DSF files?
I'm curious also - Is this a tool for Merchants only? or could it be useful to people who do a lot of customizing of their personal libraries?. If itsintended as a commercial tool It should say so. We hobbyists aren't too bright ;-) :red:
I take the stance if you do not know what it is for, you probably do not need it.
I HAVE incidently edited .duf & .dsf files in notepad the same way as I have cr2 files to change file pathways for textures, morphs etc not found, so it may be for this, I do not really know.
Perhaps DimesionD needs to make an explanatory post on the forum.
Thanks for the reply - I've been editing poser files in a text editor for many years - even thought I've bought many File Editors, I rarely use them except when I have lots of files to process - then it is a matter of how easily the Editing tool can do batches or at least speed up the manual process. Only someone who has used it can really evaluate that, but at least the merchant can make clear whether it allows batch processing.or not and how it fits into the average pipeline.
It appears to be a daz dson file editing equivalent of the Poser File Editor also by Dimension 3ds Ralf Sesseler - http://d3d.sesseler.de/index.php?software=posertool&product=poser_ed
it would be used mainly by content artist who need to change internal information routinely in a quicker and more organised way than just using a text editor
Dimension 3d makes great applications and if you edit content files often then this would probably be a real bonus to have.
Thanks - I do find that the D3D Poser File Editor is useful, so I think I will pick this one up if I can find 2 more products to make that bundle - that should not be too difficult.
...as I don;t mess with scripting, this looks like something I will not need then.

OK, batch file processing I can understand. Lately, however, I find I just need to change a version number when someone creates something in a Poser version newer than what I have.
Yes, I've done file path changes as well, but usually in my plain text editor of choice because I usually don't have to do it for more than one file. With a programming degree under my belt, I'm not afraid to get in and "hack" non-binary files, but I don't think I do it often enough to warrant buying this. That in no way means it isn't going to be worth it to those who do. I just wasn't sure exactly what would need to be edited in DUF or DSF files, but I suppose correct file paths and such might need editing in those files just as they are in cr2s, pp2s, etc.
I havn't got this yet but. I have edited DSF when they fail to save right (which might be my doing because it hasn't happened for a while.) One reason is if the DSF file doesn't point to the right place for an object or texture. I wouldn't recomend it for a newbie, but I will be buying this.
