Correct procedure for adding your own props

I've created a shield that I'm trying to insert into Daz Studio, (To eventually submit as an asset) I want to be able to insert it into the left or right hand, male or female for Genesis 3 and 8. how do you do this with a single prop? Do you have to save each one as a separate scene file, or is there another way to do it?

Fist save it as a figure/prop asset, just resting on the ground if possible - File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure Prop Asset, make sure you have the right content diectory listed at the top; the names determine the names of the folders used in the Data folder in the content directory. Once you have that asset, position it and aprent it to the figure's forearm (or whatever) and then use File>Save As>Wearables Preset to save a file for loading and parenting it.

I would start by loading the shield, setting the materials, and saving it as a "zero prop". Up to you whether you want to include that in your product or not, but that will work out any issues with saving the geometry and the texture files. You may also want to use Studio's rigging to set the origin point somewhere that makes sense for the shield. This will help anyone who wants to rotate it on the figure's arm later and makes the connection point to the figure it's parented to more logical.

Then, for each figure (Gen 3 Male, Gen 3 Female, Gen 8 Male, Gen 8 Female), you'll need to do the following.

    1. Load the base figure you want to parent to (let's say Genesis 3 Male)
    2. Load the shield you saved above
    3. Move the shield into the position you want it (say in the proper position for the left forearm of the figure)
    4. Parent the shield to the figure
    5. Select the shield and choose Save As .. Support Aseet .. Figure/Prop Asset
      1. Name it something like "Fableman Shield - G3M - Left"
      2. Make sure you have the parenting information checked
    6. Move the shield to the other hand and repeat the save for a right hand parenting

Yes, it's tedious work and the unglamorous side of making these sorts of things. But your eventual customers will appreciate it!

Also check out Jen Greelee's video on the proper way to save a prop as she covers additional things in the process that I've probably forgotten!

This video from Jen also has a lot of useful information that would apply to your shield.

Thanks for the help Richard and Jonny. There a lot of useful information there. Today, I'm going to work through it all slowly and see if I can get it to work. Much appreciated.
