question...i have split up the surface of a genesis3 female figure into named ploygon groups using the surface tool ...is there a way to apply that same split to another genesis3 female character??

i looked at presets but cannot see a way to do this.??

thanks if you could suggest a way..

You can't save a preset for changed surfaces. The surfaces are a part of the figure if you change or just rename them you propably can't apply material presets to the figure anymore.

Maybe tell us what you try to do with those surfaces and there could be other ways of achiving it.

You can however save the figure with the changed surfaces as a scene SubSet or a Character Preset. Then merge the subset or load the character preset into the current scene. The changed surfaces will only show up on the figures loaded with this subset or character preset. It's even easier to simply duplicate the G3F figure with those surfaces you've created and apply a different character preset all in the same scene.

thanks..i thought that might be the case...i was trying to lose some annoying historical embeded references (duplicate formula) to old morphs that i cant shake off by hiving off the chraracter as presets ...by and large it worked except for the surface sets...but i can redo those fairly quickly

    Yeah if only

stupidist thing DAZ did was to make the head neck and torso one texture on the last two Genesis incarnations IMO

You can also export an OBJ file with those surfaces and use this OBJ to Update Base Geometry with "Update Full Geometry" on the other figure.

Set the figure to base resolution and hide everything else before exporting the OBJ.

    Edit>Figure>Geometry>Update Base Geometry

[Quote] Possible to import new material zones for clothing

Try the action Edit > Figure > Update Base Geometry and in the Update Operation choose Update Full Geometry instead of the default Update Vertex Position.

Next you will see the OBJ Import Options dialouge with the various options at the bottom.

I'm not 100 percent shure about that but this should read in any changes to the UV-map, the Face Groups (Poly Groups) and the Surface Groups (Material Zones).

The Vertex Count & Order should keep the same as the original otherwise it refuses to update or you will get an exploding mesh I guess.

You can apply the changes to another figure, but you can save them (as a Character Preset, if used to load a new figure, or as a Scene Subset) and apply the character preset for another character to that - then you'd just have to apply materials to the new surfaces.
