How do I get OBJs for all the body parts of a Genesis 8 figure using Zbrush

When I load a Genesis 8 Figure and export out the figure to Zbrush using GoZ, how do I save out each body part (e.g. right thigh, left thigh, right shin, left shin, etc) as a separate OBJ in Zbrush?

I wonder why you want to do that but its not possible with the GoZ export because there are no face groups / polygroups on the GoZ mesh.

However you can do this if you export an OBJ of the G8F figure from Daz Studio. File>Export>Wavefront OBJ, choose an export preset, import it to ZBrush with Tool > Import, then drag the "tool" across the canvas and hit the Edit button or press T.

The command to split the geometry by polygroups is called "Groups Split" and can be found in the Subtool > Split tools pallet section.

Next you can export the selected subtool with Tool > Export one at a time.

Back in Daz Studio File>Import>Wavefront OBJ, choose to import with the same scale like with the export preset you have choosen.

  • Thank you Syrus!  I needed them for collision geometry for cloth simulations in a game engine.
