Skins and textures not listed in smart content and not appliable.

Hi everyone, I just started out with daz and have some issues with changing skins on my g8f. I can see the skins listed in content library and then under "characters" but I can't apply them if I click on it. It usually tells me error when reading the file see log file for more details. It says something like this on the log file 2019-05-05 12:56:21.494 Invalid hierarchy for selected node(s) and "preset_hierarchical_material" type; no root(s) found.
2019-05-05 12:56:21.494 Error reading file, see log for more details.
Not sure what  that means or how to fix this, I'm just trying to get a different manually downloaded g8f skin to be applied.

Do you have G8F selected in the scene? That's the message you get when you try to apply a material to ...nothing.

hmmm, I thought I did, some of the items are now working but I'm not sure if that's just because I dragged most of the skin material into genesis 8 female's skin folder (to try and fix this). But I think you are on to something, should I specifically click a part of the body the item is supposed to be applied to?

Also as a side question, I read that you can use g8m morphs on g8f by using the utility transfer tool, but everytime I tried the program crashes so I'm not sure if I did it wrong or not...or will ever be able to do that. Theoretically, could I transfer genesis morphs and genesis 3 morphs to genesis 8 figures too? And when I transfer will the morph come with a slider or will just be a copy of the other figure's current morph level.

    Thanks

For a material preset, select any part of the target figure. For hierarchical materials, best to select the base figure. (Shaders are a different beast.) The materials don't necessarily have to be in a particular folder, the one it is packaged in will be good. It's the relative postion of all the supporting resources that is important (i.e., bitmaps). If you install manually, make sure you place things in the proper position in the library.

As for transferring morphs, much has been written elsewhere, and might languish in this thread, given the title.

    Ah I see thanks.
And no problem, best to keep it on topic.

I'm just having a hard time testing all these things out as I'm making a scene with two textured figures and the program is acting cheeky loading one figure's texture just as an eye texture stretched across the body, or making the models all white and textureless, my only quick solution is close the program and reopen it...then get a different texture issue from the lottery of bugs, then try out a new texture just for the program to crash. It's weird but I think my daz can't handle more than one figure at a time...that's probably my seven year old computer's fault though.

Can you do each one individually? If so, you are probably overloading your system with two. Lemme guess, 8GB RAM? If you have any other applications running, especially browser windows, you'll probably use half of that before before you even start Studio. Besides a fresh boot, you'll have to do some serious resource management, like reducing bitmap resolution on parts that don't need high resolution (i.e. 4K or higher maps), remove normal maps, displacement, or some of the fancy shader settings. Again, much has been written about that sort of thing, so spend a little time going through the forums (even with the less than rewarding search function, you should find plenty of tips).
