dForce freezing up Daz Studio

With more and more dForce compatible clothing showing up, I've decided to buckle down and figure it out. However, I've run into a problem.

I've followed the instructions in the Daz's tutorial video and made sure all of the settings match up, but when I hit "Simulate," Studo goes into "not responding" and freezes up. After that, i have to use the task manager to shut it down.

Has anyone run into this before, and how did you fix it?

What is your OpenCL provider set to, in the Advanced tab of Simulation Settings? How long have you let the process sit - it does say Not responding while settings everything up or between steps during simulation if you click on the window. Have you trid something simple, like a plane with 20 divisions over a sphere?

"AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing Ellesmere" is the only thing on the dropdown, and it is checked.

I've been through the "show me how" thing on the tips so many times, I've lost count. Every time results in a lock up and, as I type this, we're coming up to 15 minutes on the most recent attempt. Zero CPU, disk, or memory activity associated with Daz on the task manger.

Running a 32 Gig RAM, 3.2GHz processor, 8 Gig video, BTW.

Additional: End task-ed it at the half hour mark.

And was that just a promitive, or was it a piece of clothing? Was the progress bar advancing the time at all?

    Nope. Just sat there.

Is that OpenCL device your GPU? If so, and if you have an Intel CPU, you could try using the Intel CPU driver for OpenCL (see https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/203081/dforce-start-here#latest ). It's possible you've found an issue with the AMD drivers, which are probably used by a minority here given that Iray won't use those GPUs - it may be worth opening a support icket to see what Daz says.

OpenGL (used for “classical” viewport display in DS) and openCL (used to compute dForce simulation) are two different things.

The 580 is an ok card but who knows how it works with dForce. Try the very simplest possible simulation, dropping a plane onto a sphere would be fine and see if the 580 can handle that.
