ColorWerks

I must not be using this product properly, because when I select the hair in the scene tab and then apply the base and overlay shaders (by double-clicking them) in the Smart Content tab, nothing happens.

There doesn't seem to be any documentation for this product either.

Does anyone know what the steps are to use this?

These are shaders. Like all shaders, you have to select the object (the hair) in the Scene pane and select the hair surface(s), that you want to apply ColorWerks to, in the Surfaces pane.

Here is a link to a video that might help you.

Thank you! I guess I am mostly experienced with the procedural shaders I've purchased. You just select the object and apply a shader. they are fairly easy.

This is a little more complicated but I will watch the video and give it a try.

Also make sure you are using the surface selector tool when applying shaders as some require it or the surface isn't really selected.

Yes, you've run into the difference between a Shader Preset and a Material Preset. Since a Material Preset targets the surfaces by name, you only have to select the object. But a Shader Preset needs you to tell it which surface to apply to by selecting the object and then the surface.

Thanks JonnyRay. That clears up a bit for me.

this is one of the hardest parts of DAZ Studio for me.

Between the materials, shader presets, geoshells, and decals (tattoos, etc) I feel like I have learned a lot but still don't have a really good grasp of it all.
