Putting the pieces together

I'm brand new to 3d design, so I'm trying to fit all the pieces together. Can anyone direct me to some concise information as to how all the products and programs fit together?

What can be done with the stock DazStudio program?
Why is animate2 needed and what exactly does that do?
How is photoshop involved?
How is poser involved?
What are the packages of the models in the online shop?
How can you tell what you're getting when you're looking on line to purchase a model?

I would like to create a video for use on a website which will be for commercial purposes. It would be a short 2-3 minute video all done in one location with one female character and some furniture. Can all of this be accomplished with DazStudio? If so, what are the steps to get all of this done?

I know these are a lot of questions but any help would be appreciated!

What can be done with the stock DazStudio program?

DAZ Studio can be used for rendering scenes, and it can be thought of as a photographic studio (hence the name). It s also capable of creating animations. Have a look at the Galleries to see what can be done in terms of 2D renders.

Why is animate2 needed and what exactly does that do?

Animate 2 is not needed to create animations, but it can be helpful as it uses 'Aniblocks' (some free ones with DS) and if you have the full (paid for) version, you can create your own. Try out some of the free ones to see how it is used.

    How is photoshop involved?

Photoshop is one of many 2D image editing programs, such as Paint Shop Pro, Gimp (free) etc etc etc. What they do is enhance or add to 2D images that you can create using DAZ Studio. None of these programs are strictly necessary to use DS.

    How is poser involved?

Poser is another piece of software currently owned by Smith Micro, which does much the same as DAZ Studio. It was around before DS, but (generally) Poser content can be used inside DS, and some DS content can be used in Poser.

What are the packages of the models in the online shop?

Not sure what you mean here?

How can you tell what you’re getting when you’re looking on line to purchase a model?

The product page lists everything that you are buying on the 'What's included and Features' tab.

If you ever need any advice on what to buy, or what a product includes (or needs), just ask on the forums.

    Thanks for the reply.

What I meant by packages online and being able to know what you're getting when you're looking to purchase a model is that when you see a model, http://www.daz3d.com/people/gia-6 , is one I was looking at, how do you know what you'll get when you open it up in DS?

Maybe you can give me a list of what I need. I’m trying to create a video animation for a website for commercial purposes. It will be about 2-3 minutes, have a female character that will be nude and will take place in a bedroom with some furniture. Movement in the video will be done by the female character so I would like pretty good control of the movements.

No Clothing mentioned, or Hair, you get the body shape for the Genesis 2 Female to make her into Gia, and a skin material for Gia,

It is also important to look at :
Compatible 3D Figures - Genesis 2 Female You need G2F (free) installed first to use Gia at all.

Creating an animation is not a simple matter. What you would need is a bedroom (have a look at the Dream Home bedroom), some furniture for that bedroom, a female figure either V4 or a morph of V4, or any of the morphs for Genesis or Genesis 2. You will need to learn how to create keyframes, and a bit about animation in general.

So if I download that Gia 6 and open it in DS, I'll see a character like the one shown in the online image? Can that figure be manipulated with the animate lite that comes with DS. What sorts of animations/movements are possible.

    The user guides are here:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/start

Studio is free to buy and include three free content packages that contain some starter figures, clothing, props and environments. Try it and see if it is something you like.

I was thinking about purchasing http://www.daz3d.com/people/gia-6 I was wondering if all the body parts can me made to move if I create an animation with the character ie. fingers, wrists, ankles, knees etc. How about facial expressions?

As this is on the same subject basically as your original thread I am going to merge it woth that thread, to save those trying to help you having to answer in two threads and possible duplicating information.

I honestly think that you need to Start with DS and the basic figure that comes as standard with it, either the Genesis figure, or one of the 2 Genesis 2 figures, and experiment to see what the program does for you before you start buying additional content.

All DAZ 3d Human figures are poseable, and hence able to be animated, given the correct animation software and the experience to use it.
