I'm Slightly Struggling with Shadow Rendering

Hello everyone :)

I'm currently learning to use Daz Studio and I'm having a hard time understanding how Shadow works.

Indeed, whenever I change my "Shadow" parameters on the Light Pannel (Shadow Intensity, Shadow Bias, etc.) it doesn't seem to change the actual shadows in my active viewport.

For example:

That's probably a dumb question but given the matter has had me stumped for hours, I was wondering if anyone could help me please? smiley

Thanks for reading and good night!

Are you rendering in Iray or 3dl?

Try to set the Iray preview mode :)

Shadow adjustments don't work on Iray lights. The only shadow you can adjust is the ground shadow intensity.

Uh, sorry, confused it with crush black etc. in tone mapping :)

That's alright. Crush Blacks decreases the blacks across the image and decreases the contrast.

  • Hello!

Wow thank you for your answers.

I'm using 3Delight indeed! (I tried Nvidia Iray but as you predicted my shadow panel shut itself down indeed xD)

So here it is. On 3Delight, and unfortunately, any change I make in the "Shadow Parameters" panel doesn't implement itself in my active viewport. Do you have any idea why this is happening? surprise

Thanks for reading and good night !

    Set Shadow Type to Raytrace.

As jetsmart said, use raytraced shadows, open the aux viewport pane and click on the IPR play button, (interactive progressive rendering);)

  • This worked! :D Thank you so much for your help! :D

    Have a good day! laugh
