Ms Hedgehog

Hello,

I have a question about Ms Hedgehog and LAMH before I purchase.

https://www.daz3d.com/ms-hedgehog-for-genesis-8-female

I purchased the LAMH2Iray Catalyzer product a while back, and all the animals that I purchased have a catalyzer verion which I render with the Catalyzer. They look incredible.

However, I'm not sure how Ms Hedgehog will work from the description. It says that it includes an "LAMH Preset" for the hedgehog morph and also includes an LAMH Installer.

It also states,

  • In regards to LAMH, when rendering in Iray you should save the addition of hair to just before render time and be sure to set the geometry type as "export to obj" and not "Render Man". When rendering in 3Delight, "Renderman" is still the way to go.

So I'm not sure if I need the LAMH product as well (or if it is included) or how exactly this works, or why I need to save an OBJ file in Iray. It's not a Catalyzer animal which I am used to using in Iray.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The LaMH preset is included, but it is the original format, not Catalyzer. Original LaMH format will not render in Iray, so the workaround is to export the fur as .obj and re-import (resource-intensive), which makes it like any other prop with geometry and textures, and can be rendered in Iray using an appropriate shader. Thing is, it has no rigging, so can't be re-posed. If you want to change the pose, you have to re-do that export-import process again. As they mention, adding the hair should be saved for the end.

Alessandro_AM has done a great service by providing Catalyzer versions for all of his animals with LaMH presets. Other vendors might do it, but there is no guarantee they will, if they are even able to (could be a proprietary process).

Thank you Northof45. That clears up the thing about exporting the OBJ fur.
