Half black Environment Iray canvas?

I've seen this a few times. Does anyone know why a canvas can render this way? It seems to happen more often with the Environment canvas.

The full beauty pass looks fine.

  • I looked into this a few months ago and found an LPE that allow me to render the bottom portion but I do not recall it atm. I will try to find my notes on this when I get home. It is convoluted...

    Ground level?

  • Here are my notes for the LPE's:

Le.*E (for environment from horizon up)
[^Le].*E (for below horizon with hdri only...must have draw ground on)
<L'plane'>.*E (for below horizon with a plane on ground...draw ground must be off on environment and also must apply iray advanced shader to the plane/primitive and set to Enable Iray Matte)

    Ground level?

I wouldn't think that would be the issue since it is cutting off at the character's heads. But, it was also a free HDRI that I used and I don't think it explicitly was setup with ground textures. Turning "draw ground" on did distort the HDRI. So it could just be a bad HDRI.

Thank you for this. I've added this info to my notes file that I keep to remind me of things that are uncommon. In the end, I resolved my problem by running a separate render with Dome Only and using the "Beauty" cavnas from that as my "Environment" canvas in my final image.

Can I ask where you found this information? I would like to explore LPE more, but haven't really found a reliable source with good examples.

Honestly I do not recall. I had used a few resources from iray dev blog for general ones but also looked at forums from other software like Maya. I did not note the links and unfortunately did not backup my bookmarks from old pc...smh
