How do I scatter a bunch of items in a scene

I loaded a bunch of grass in my scene but they all loaded up in the same spot. I need the grass to be spread out in the scene. Or do I have to manually move each one myself?

If you don't have Ultrascatter or a similar product, then yes.
To make manual scattering more bearable, I suggest you load the grass object once. Then create enough instances to cover a certain area of ground through manual placement (the size of that area depands on the size of the prop, the size of area you're ultimately filling, and your level of patiance). Once placed, put all the instances in a group (actually, they'll already be in a group when they're created, but making a new one will put the centre point in the right place). You can't create instances of groups of instances, but you can duplicate them, so do that - as many times as you need to cover the whole area by moving and rotating the groups of instances.
It's not as quick or clever as ultrascatter, but it is free, and quicker than individually positioning clumps of grass over a large area.
