New POLL at CARRARA CAFE

I've been having some discussions with Carrara users about what kind of content could be on CARRARA CAFE…. ok, I've been nagging them to write articles, LOL! A couple of conversations sparked about the best format (specifically PDF was mentioned a few times...)

Got me thinking, everybody probably has a different learning style… Are articles best? PDFs? YouTube?
Not to mention MAKING a quality tutorial is often a creative PITA that takes way longer than it should…

so I made a public poll.
(Yay! a POLL! Click buttons! WooHOO!)

If you could go and vote (on the sidebar) your opinions.
Top 3 answers three votes wooHOO! YOLO

I think you have to be logged in to vote….

:red: How could I make it clearer? I was hoping it could be info everyone could use (not just specific to Cafe)...

Voted! As someone who has done their fair share of tutorials, I can confirm that it that it takes way longer than you think it would.

    Hi Holly,

Actually just a small one - but maybe its just me...
"What tutorials would you like to see?"

Great initiative this poll is, Thanks!

I hear you Phil! It was quite a learning experience putting together the manual for my Fantasy Village Terrain. I should really get my crap together and put out a couple tutorials similar to the manual I made.

I see… Maybe splitting hairs, for me that question is asking what subjects you want the tutorials to be about… I was going more for "How do you like your tutorials"… I was also trying to get it to fit on one line, haha.

I suppose it would be obvious from the possible answers though (I guess it was)?

And I realize I am using a very broad and loose definition of "tutorial"… article/content/subject/guide…. Maybe "tutorial" is too leading a term? Maybe there is a better word? Next poll maybe? :)

LOL, luckily the vote is non-binding…

Looks like there are a few clear winners showing up on the top!

Thanks for feedback everybody…, I was hoping everyone would vote against long detailed, well-produced tutorials/content… You know, instead going for the quick Twitter version of a tutorial in 144 characters or less…. no such luck. :-S

    Very much agree.

I don't want to throw a monkey wrench in things, but it might be a good thing to have more than one type of tutorial available. Maybe a quick tips forum thread or something like that along with whatever the majority decides.

Just my two cents. In the end, I'll take whatever I can get...tutorial wise. :)

I'll take what I can get. I can appreciate the time and effort any tutorial requires, whatever the format. I voted, so maybe I'll get my preference. In any case, thanks for asking. I'm sure they will be great.

I suppose some very simple topics can be covered briefly. However, speaking personally as still rather new to Carrara, simple topics probably don't need much illumination. The things I struggle with most are the topics that really do need detailed explanation - beyond the passing reference in the users' guide. But then again, it doesn't take much for me to see any topic as complex! ;)

It's interesting. I definitely did not expect PDF to be rated so highly… That is news for me. Looks like I need to dust off the layout program and figure it out…

Supposedly you can embed a 3D model in a pdf in U3D format…. I tried to research it, but most samples I called up did not work on my Mac. :( Not sure if that feature is just not quite there or what… Not really sure it as valuable as it sounds. Web3D still a long way off it seems…..

You can't embed html5 interactive widgets either - not that I am doing anything that advanced…. But you can imbed small videos. Hmmmmmmm

I knew about the videos. No idea about object files. Not really a desire to do that. If I were to include working files they would be separate file included with, or linked to from the pdf.
