Easy Way To Create Broken Glass?

Hi everyone!

I need to create a shattered crystal ball, and so I need to create some broken glass or something like that.

I've seen these shaders: https://www.daz3d.com/colored-and-broken-glass-iray-shaders
But I don't think they would achieve what I want.

The other products are too expensive for me right now, sadly.

There's this freebie: https://sharecg.com/v/66942/view/5/3D-Model/Shattered-Glass
But it's more for broken windows, than for a pile of broken shards on the ground.

So, do you know any easy way to create that myself? I'm not a modeler at all!

I had thought about creating some primitives with the glass shader and shattering them around, any better idea?

If you need something cheap, this breakable window freebie might work to create shards on the floor with a bit of scaling / positioning.

Otherwise I would suggest this product which includes glass debris (both flying debris and on the floor).

Combine those with a DS crystal shader since you want crystal shards.

    Thanks Leana :)

Yes, that looks like the perfect product, but right now I can't buy it! Maybe I'll render that scene again next month with that product.

I think the other freebie looks a little bit better!

If your crystal ball is a solid one, then smashing it is likely (I imagine) to produce a load of irregularly shaped chunks of glass, rather than the flat pieces you get when you break a window. I think I'd be looking at products (and freebies) intended to represent rocks, like say this one: https://www.daz3d.com/rubble-for-everyone-vol-ii . Apply a glass shader to the rocks and you should have something close.

Thank you very much, this is a great idea!!! :D

This is what I had achieved with that freebie, but, of corse, it's not ideal :(

Okay, perfect, this looks much better now!!! :D

The crystal ball was actually red.

I've used a rock freebie from sharecg, and some other rocks I had in my library, and applied the shader

Easy Way To Create Broken Glass?

Try a baseball bat or 9 iron on any window!

    (Sorry, couldn't resist.) ;)

I love the glass-shaded rocks trick.

    Thank you :D

But I've already done that page, I didn't have the money to purchase anything, I don't know how to use them and I think the rocks look better ^^
