I'm Having Problems Locating Built-In Items in New DAZStudio 4.6 Pro

Hello everyone,
I have been having problems getting DAZ 4.6 Pro to locate anything in the Smart Content Folder. I just found out I was running an outdated version of DAZ 4.6 Pro, and decided to install the most recent one. (hoping this would fix the problem. But, upon doing so, and running DAZS 4.6 Pro, I once again notice none of the built-in Genesis starter essential items are appearing in the Smart Content tab, and my search function in the content library tab is broken. What really baffles me about the whole thing, I uninstalled everything from the previous DAZS, content management and the program, and when I opened the new installation (using Install Manager this time), everything was as I had left it with the previous DAZS I have. (I installed the new DAZS this time to my C: where it previously was on my external HD, I:, which is where my library of content is located)

I really dont understand why this is still happening guys? No content in the Smart Content Folder, the search engine is broken and all of my previous preferences, still the same. I didn't have to load my, 'My Library' or anything into this new one. Really baffled on how to get these two things to work. Can anyone offer any insight on what I am doing wrong?)

Thanks,

Merc

It sounds as if your CMS (Content Management Service) is not running.

In Windows, go to the Task Manager > Processes > Show Processes from All Users, and see if it is running as a Process. If not, go to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D and start it from there.

Smart Content and the search function in the Content Library both rely on CMS running. You will also find that there are no Products or Categories listed either without CMS.

Try that for now to see if you can get it to start.

    Hello Jimmy,
Thank you so much for replying and for all the suggestions. I did ask you asked, looked under the task manager, processes, and yea, content management service is running but nothing still shows up in my DAZStudio Smart Content/Search tabs. I also went into the DAZ folder and clicked 'star CMS' a black box appeared and nothing happened as well. This is very strange because before I installed 4.6 a year ago, everything worked fine with 4.5. And now, these two things dont work. Its a bit baffling, to be honest.

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it and will keep trying to figure out why my CMS is not running in DS 4.6 Pro. (I'm running Windows 7 64-bit btw)

If the CMS is not running, other than things not showing in smart content, does that effect the way DS functions?

Have you tried 'Stop DAZ Content Management Service ' , wait a few minutes, then try to restart it. If it is still not showing your Smart Content, and the search function is still not working, you may need to uninstall it from the same place, and reinstall DS4.6. It wont mess up your content in any way, but it will install the latest version of CMS for you along with DAZ Studio. If CMS is already there, DS does not replace it, so you need to uninstall it first.

CMS is also used for the Autofit feature in DS, and some other things too..

    Hello Iceprncss & Jimmy2009,
After 2 hrs of installing and uninstalling DS 4.6 and the CMS, and getting a bunch of errors, I somehow got lucky and got the CMS and search engines to work! :D All I did was just install everything to my external HD (I:) and WALA, everything finally is working. Thanks so much for the suggestions and helping me figure out how to finally get everything to work!

    Have a great weekend guys!

When you update DS to a new version, should you uninstall the CMS and install the version that is part of the updated or not?

    Hey IcePrncss,
Actually, what I did was completely uninstall everything from the previous version of DS I had, including the CMS. I just used the download installer this time that comes with DAZ, instead of installing it manually. I'm guessing IM will install everything where it needs to go, including the CMS. :)

    I hope this helps!

It is not really necessary to uninstall CMS first, but a lot of people do that. I usually do as well, and that way I can guarantee that I am getting the latest version of CMS as well. I believe that you can uninstall CMS, and then install it from the DIM as a separate install, but it is installed along with DAZ Studio anyway if CMS has previously been uninstalled.

I don't use Smart Content and I realized one day that CMS hadn't been running for a couple of months and I didn't even notice.

I discovered it because the DIM has checkmarks that shows if something installed has metadata. I used Smart Content one day for some reason and found recent stuff missing. That's because the CMS wasn't running when DIM installed those products.

So, the answer to your question seems to be No.
