I have been using using DAZ Studio for a number of years now and I still cannot get Skydomes to work! I have followed various tutorials but they do not work for me! Perhaps I am a bit slow!!!
Can anyone give me a step by step instruction on how to get them to work! Cheers

Are you rendering in Iray or 3Delight? Modelled skydomes are a 3Delight thing.
Skydomes in Iray tend to be HDRI or half domes> You could render the skydome in 3delight and then render scene in iray and mix in gimp or photoshop.
Half domes in Iray? That I would be interested in. Can you point me in the direction of some?
Cheers,
Alex.
You have to create them yourself by cutting the dome in half with modeler or by creating a seperate material zone in studio and turning off half of the dome. I usually don't go thru the trouble I just use a HDRI for day scenes and for night I use a 3delight sky dome for sky or space scenes and render Iray with low light setups and use a denoiser to get rid of fireflies. Iray does not like low light so sometimes I just render in 3delight and just convert the textures over from iray to 3delight. I will be honest i don't recommend using skydomes with Iray it is a bad idea. If you don't want to spend money just go online and find some freebie HDRI sites that are giving out some sky HDRI and plug them in and use them. Otherwise just use 3delight to render the skydome and add this to scene via photoshop.
Hi Everyone,Many thanks for your replies.I am using Iray. Once again I need an explanation step by step on how to use them! Perhaps I have got it all wrong! I want rotating skies to go with my landascapes. Perhaps skydomes are not suitable for this.If not what should I use? Cheers
If you really want to use skydomes, you can load the regular 3delight ones, convert the surface to Iray and assign the texture to emissive, that way it'll cast light into your scene. But, as has already been pointed out, it's not a good solution; the textures will look blurry and lo-res, and the render time will be longer. Best thing to do is search for free HDRI maps online. They usually offer decent quality HDRIs for free, hoping that you'll buy the high quality ones. They work great with Iray and you can rotate them in your scene.
Hi Everyone, Many thanks for your help.I did try Skydomes using 3Delight and HDR using Iray.I now know what I am doing and I prefer HDR with Iray.Cheers
