Saving Scene Subsets, Poses and Props with preview icons

Hello,

I have been a Poser user for a long time and I am currently trying to figure out Daz Studio so I have lots of questions. One of them is how do I save scene subsets, poses, props etc with a preview icon? This is done automatically when you save a character, pose or prop in Poser but I don't seem to get them when I save in Daz Studio. What am I missing?

Another question is am I saving new characters correctly? I am currently saving them as a scene subset because I want to save them with hair, clothes etc but is this the way do do it or is there another, better way?

Thanks for any replies.

If you ar saving in a native .duf file you should get a PNG thuimbnail, though ti will be an OpenGL render only.

Yes, Scene Subset woudl be the way to get everything - a Character preset will save shape and materials, a Wearables preset will save parented items (and optionally pose), but there isn't a preset that saves everything pertaining to the character.

AFAIK how the thumbnail will look like depends on the currently selected render engine in the Render Settings pane. The smale thumbanil gets rendered from the current view in the Viewport by the time you save the file to the content library. Make shure you have the Viewport or the Aux Viewport selected and the perspective "framed" to the object/figure you want to see in the thumbnail. You can also create a camera from the current perspective and use it as the thumbnail view, just remember to select it in the View Selector before saving a file. Also make shure to show the Aspect Frame in the Viewport and set the Aspect Ratio to Square (1:1) in the Render Settings so you can see what will end up in the thumbnail with the fixed square 1:1 aspect ratio.

However the default thumbnail size is very smale and you can't change that. For a better thumbnail you can render the scene like usual and replace the thumbnail PNG with the high-res render. I don't know of any restriction in the thumbnail resolution Daz Studio will show it anyway.

What is the pathway to the default location where Scene Subset files are stored? Thanks -

    I think /Documents/Daz 3d/Studio/My Library/Scene Subsets/

You can render you own thumbnail images for any duf file.  Just make sure you give it the exact same name.

I can't remember how it was called, but there was a product that let you render your thumbnails!

Super Save by V3Digitimes can do that.

If you have a daz file in your directory called something.duf, the thumbnail used will be in the same directory and called something.duf.png. You can use any image you like as that thumbnail, though it's best to make them square and not too big. The standard size for a thumbnail image is 91x91 pixels. If you make them bigger than that, they'll be resized to 91x91 when shown in the content library, but appear full size when you mouse over them. I find 300x300 is a nice size for a thumbnail.

Unless something has changed recently, I do not believe that there is a way to change the size at which thumbnails are displayed within the DAZ Studio user interface itself. You may use higher resolution thumnail images beyond the standard 91 x 91, but I believe they will still be displayed in DAZ Studio at the standard resolution. I could be wrong.

I user 384x384 PNGs for my thumnails. The menu items are stil 91x91, but the mouse-over versions are 384x384, so I can see them more clearly in the pop-up menu. (With 4K monitors being more and more popular the thumbnails really should be bigger.)

Yes, Scene Subset woudl be the way to get everything - a Character preset will save shape and materials, a Wearables preset will save parented items (and optionally pose), but there isn't a preset that saves everything pertaining to the character.

Wearables don't seem to apply to simple parented props. I have two swords parented to the back of a figure, but when I try to save one as a wearable, DS yells at me that it's not a wearable.

Just want to save a parented prop...

If you parent the swords to a clothing item, then save the clothing item as a wearable preset, it will save with the swords parented.

  • my questionn is related to thumbnail

earlier in Daz 4.21, if i save any scene it save single thumbnail (Example scene name is ABC.duf, thumbnail name is ABC.duf.png)

But in daz 4.22 it save two thumbnail for single scene (exmaple Scene name is ABC.duf the thumbnail will be ABC.duf.png and ABC.tip.png

how can i disable this so it save single thumbnail for each scene.
