How to get the new Daz Barn to work in Poser?

I'm ripping my hair out yet again. I am using Poser Pro 2014 and no matter what I do I get an error message when ever I try to use the New Daz Barn. This is not the first product I have had a problem with. Usually I can get them working but it can take months of trial and error to get the files installed in such a way to get them to work. Some things I install and they work the first time, no problem. Other things I install the exact same way and i get these dumb errors when trying to use them. Is there an installation guide for installing things so that they work? This is getting really frustrating.

Usually I install the Poser files to my Poser runtime, then I install any Studio files to my Daz Studio content folder. 90% of the time this works fine. But not always. I use external runtimes and content folders, but some items seem to only work if installed to the native program files. I also have a completely dummy runtime set up that really shouldn't work for anything at all, but for some reason certain things only work when they are installed in the dummy runtime, Neither program is set up to use this runtime and i have no idea why things work when installed there, but for some reason they do. Its a complete bloody mystery to me. Everything is telling me it shouldn't work, but i have had about 10 products now that only work once the files are installed in the dummy folder.

If someone has an manual installation procedure that works 100% of the time for every product, please let me know so i can stop ripping my hair out. I mean it seems like it should be simple, Install the Poser files where they go in Poser, install the studio files where they do in Studio, and that should work. Except...... not always.

I've also had cases where I have installed something, it doesn't work, the first 25 or so times I try it it doesn't work, then like a month or so down the road after doing nothing at all i will try it just on a whim and poof it works perfectly. And I have no clue as to why.

So if anyone can explain this to me and solve any of these mysteries and end my hair pulling frustration, please help.

Usually this is the error message i get. Exception in " RealityDataModel::addObjects: NULL result without error in PyObject_Call " or something similar

I'd say DAZ has packed them wrong..

The poser file for the barn doesn't open up in Carrara either.. and it should.

Hum.. I didn't have any problems loading the barn with the DAZ Studio and PoserCF files installed via DIM. I'm have Poser Pro 2010 which I rarely use...

I always manually install the DSON Core files in a DS Content directory, and the Poser Companion files in a standard Poser runtime. I never have problems.

Did you try D3D's DSON loader script from his site? You can load duf and dsf files with it without the need for Poser Companion Files.

It's free and does require the DSON importer be installed.

If the product does not come with PCF's, you may have texture issues. But I found this to happen with products that specifically do not come with PCF's.

not tried it yet, i have used the DSON Loader before to mixed success. I'd prefer to just be able to load from the library rather than mess around with the loader.

This kind of ticks me off really, I am used to dealing with this type of issue with Genesis and Genesis related products... but this is a damn Barn, its not a conforming figure, its a prop, just give us a regular old Cr2 file. If this is the sort of thing I can start to expect from Daz i am seriously going to stop spending money here. Sure the Barn is free, but really, it makes me wonder how many headaches i am going to have with anything I buy here. I've already been shopping at other sites more and more and i'm thinking its getting to the point where i just don't spend anymore money here.

been good to know ya Daz

are you on mac or pc? maybe it makes a difference.

d/l dazbarn.zip i don't see something separate for a mac installer. no more exe for pc, zip for mac

i do manual install and i always extract to a temp folder first. especially without proper readmes, there's no way to know what files are going where.

116mb, must be some barn. :)

well, without actually checking the product page, looks like there is no poser "core" installer. no libraries subfolder under runtime folder.

edit: yep, no poser core install.

glad i don't have to ask for a refund. just have to deltree the mess from the temp folder.

I know. I've had the same issues.

The Barn maybe free to PC members this week but it isn't free to non-PC members and won't be free next week so the "it's free so we only have to provide this much" really doesn't work.

Now that the PA and PC sales are done I'm pretty much done. If there's a decent flash sale and the vendor has items I need (props that work in Poser out of the box or Gen 4 items), I'll consider them. Same for FastGrab. I did a renewal on the PC for another year but the only way I'd do it next year is if DAZ offered a decent discount on it. Jack's props and Lisa's botanicals were two of their best draws. Lisa is now gone. Jack is still here but now that he's changed or added to his jobs, who knows how much time he will have to actually model?

well, it's not free free to pc membs, still paying a monthly fee. but i'm losing out on the perk, since dson-ee doesn't work for me. i don't meet the minimums to run dson.

Just look through the store at the content I've put in since I took the admin job in April - I've put in the same amount , if not more than when I was just doing the content dev side of things.

I am officially done, I am not spending one more cent here. There is no guarantee that anything is going to work in Poser. Daz 3D has become a Studio ONLY Store as far as I am concerned. I will never buy another product here again. I have been a loyal customer here for years because Daz 3D provided consistent quality products that work well in the software I use, this is no longer true. There is no reason to continue this brand loyalty. I am fed up and that is it, no more of my $ will ever be wasted here again.

Might not work for you but what I do is install the poser cf's to my "My Library " for DAZ Studio and assign it in poser.. and I never get a problem. I just loaded the barn in 2014 and it worked fine without an error. Make sure you have Poser Pro 2014 Service Release 3 installed . Not sure if you do or not. also check to make sure you have the newest DSON importer. (there recently was an update)

Same as above; I do a manual install to one if my DS-content folders, that folder is also assigned in Poser as an external runtime; and all works
I just installed the barn this way, and it loads perfectly in poser pro 2014, with all the dials etc. working
(It just takes long to load.....)

Yes, but no matter what you are told, somehow another one of those extra little administrative tasks crops up eating up your time. They kept telling me things would not change if I left the field for the admin side of things. Sure, and I know someone who can sell you a bridge really cheap. Of course if you are in California, they really would sell you San Quentin. Wonder if comes with the residents.

Not a complaint about your work so much as looking at the PC as it's changed over the years and wondering.

As a Admin who tries to be helpful when I can I have seen this before. For no reason I can figure out (just as LX has posted) some users can do exactly the same steps as other users and still have content fail. I have gone so far as to have ONE user (they were willing) do a FULL clean install of both Poser and DAZ Studio, we even cleaned the reg on that PC, Update Poser with Service Release 3, install DSON fully and they still had errors. Everything was installed properly, everything had the proper content pointers and yet on that PC it failed. I'm stumped, its just DATA and should work. As a 30+ year computer (as a hobby) NERD I feel the answer is simple but for the life of me I can not figure this out.

Ok, just a long shot; I do recall having had such an error message before (which is a python script error message) with a completely different script.... now I can't remeber which thing that was, but maybe it is related to using a 32 or 64 bit version of the python (DSON) script

Did you by any chance install the 32 bit DSON script on a 64 bit system or vice versa?

As said, just a long shot, but who knows......

You are absolutely correct about this. At times there is no rhyme or reason why something works for some Poser users and doesn't work for others. Even if they are all using the same version and service release. When P8 was released SMS tech support and I went back and forth for almost 4 months with the library pane issue. No matter what they told me to do fixed the problem. Tech support was so frustrated they eventually threw up their hands and said they had no idea what the problem was. I actually stumbled onto the problem by accident months later.

I've recently return several products that have DSON core files only because I could not get them to function properly in Poser. I have never been able to view the DSON importer as a fully viable solution any more than I view the Poser Fusion plugins for the Pro versions of Poser as fully viable solutions to moving from Poser to other apps. This is not a sole criticism of DAZ, DS, or the DSON. Poser Fusion has its issues, Collada and FBX have theirs. As fate always seems to have it, they are least reliable when you most need them to be.

Never installed the 32 bit DSON

I have had DSON work on other things. I have had problems with DSON, you never know if a product that requires DSON will work or not, some times they don't work and you have to fiddle around with them to get them to work, some times they work and then for no reason stop working. I'm sick of it. I am absolutely fed up. From now on if it requires DSON I aint buying it.
