Can I "smooth" a portion of a mesh?

I like mesh smoothing (just made half of you hate me?) and I think it does a great job, even in some extreme conditions. I've come across a situation where I want to use mesh smoothing, but only on "part" of the mesh.

The mesh is Genesis and the "part" is the pelvis. (Yes, this is related to my other question about a Genesis left thigh bending problem).

Is there any way to apply mesh smoothing to a "part" of a mesh?

Please forgive me if my semantics ("part", "mesh", etc.) are inaccurate.

Thank you for your time.

C.

Not as far as I am aware - Genesis isn't actually broken into parts as far as the mesh is concerned. In principle, if you are using a smoothing modifier, you could export both smoothed and unsmoothed versions as OBJ files and then in a modeller such as Blender (I think) apply the smoothed version to only parts of the plain versions, then import the result back into DS as a morph, but that would obviously have limited application and would be quite a performance.
