DSON Importer won't install on Mac OSX Mavericks

edited December 1969 in The Commons

Okay, I'm a little more than frustrated here. I just spent well over $200 of goods I can't use because DAZ Install Manager can't install DSON Importer for Poser. I went through this same thing last year with Bryce and Hex failing to install. As a result of that I'm now a die-hard ZBrush and Vue fan.

Here's what I'm running:
- iMac 27 inch
- OSX Mavericks

So here's the big question. Am I out the money I spent? Is there no hope? DAZ is really this clueless?

From last year's experience, I'm convinced that DAZ tech support is useless. Now I can't install use the figures that rely on the DSON importer. I know, I should have learned my lesson last year, but DAZ at one time produced some quality stuff. No they just produce...

Is there any help on this? Also, who do I complain to? The state Attorney General? Seriously. If me, someone willing to spend $$$ consistently, can't get DAZ software to install on my computer what are my options.

Am I hosed? Is there a hidden "you can't install XXXX for reasons ZZZ" I missed?

Can someone from DAZ reply to this? Please!

Thanks,

John

One, sometimes the DIMM and Poser don't like each other. Download the manual version if the DSON importer. Install it manually to the Python folder either in the main Poser app folder (this folder is where Poser defaults to when looking for Python scripts).

No, if for some reason you version of the Mac OS and the importer don't work and play well, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to ask for a refund. You can either ask for a refund to your CC or a store credit.

Be aware of some things regarding DAZ. One, this a long holiday weekend here in the US. DAZ hours are nine to five Monday through Friday Mountain Time. Mountain Time is 2 hours behind US Eastern time (I'm too tired right now to do calculate GMT).

Not sure who or what you are going to complain about. The DIMM is primarily geared toward installing DAZ content to DAZ Studio. You can use it as a download manager to download your products but as a Poser user who has some very specific external runtime set ups and structures, I don't even bother to use it as an install manager.

Tech support will assist you as best they can but remember when dealing with both DAZ and Smith Micro tech support, they are two different companies and two different apps. Not much different than Mac and Windows in some respects.

First suggestion: go to your Product Library. Locate the DSON importer for Poser. Go to the manual download and download it. Unzip it or install it to a dummy folder on your desktop (some manual downloads still have installers). Locate the Python folder in the runtime folder of Poser main app folder. Copy the files in the dummy folder to the scripts folder in the Python folder. Close everything and launch Poser. Use the scripts pull down to see if the DSON is there. If it is, you should see a heading that says DSON importer and a triangle for a fly out.

If all else fails or you don't want to keep the purchases, go to Help and Contact US. Fill out a ticket. The usual time for tickets is 2 to 3 business days but given the recent sales it might be a bit longer and it might not

    Hope this helps.

Noting you comment about Bryce. Bryce 7 pro is not compatible with any OS X newer than Snow leopard. This is sted on the Bryce product page.

If you were in contact with DAZ tech support last year regarding Bryce and Hex, if they couldn't solve the problem, they would have put you in touch with Customer Service and your money would have been refunded.

Tech support may not always be able to solve problems but if you contact them and work with them and they cannot find a viable solution to the problem, they will see you get a refund. Even if you are a bit beyond the 30 day time frame.

Thanks for the replies. Manually installing seemed to work. I'm still downloading stuff. As luck and my bad timing would have it the V6 Pro bundle I bought last night is now on sale. :-( Oh well.

One comment on the Bryce. Bryce 7, if I remember correctly, did state at the bottom of one of the pages that it wasn't compatible with the new OSX. However, the "buy" button is at the top of the page. I had to get rid of Hex due to it crashing constantly. Neither of these issues compare to when I was trying to get support with the shopping cart the last time I tried to buy Genesis for Poser. Nuff said.

I see Gia is now on sale too. I'm off to buy that package now.

    Thanks.

You can do one of two things with V6 Pro Bundle. You can repurchase the bundle at the sale price and submit a ticket for a refund of the previous order or you can grab a screenshot of the page with sale price and submit a ticket asking CS to refund the difference between what you paid and the current sale price.
