How did you install DS4.6, by hand or by using the DIM?

If you installed DS yourself, then go to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D, and uninstall the CMS from there. Now reinstall DAZ Studio, and you will get the latest version of CMS along with that install. You MUST uninstall CMS first, or nothing will change.

Thanks to your post, I decided to check on my own CMS install and as it happened I was running a CMS that was installed long ago. I have been installing DAZ Studio thru DIM for the last two versions.

I uninstalled DAZ Studio and then the installer version of the CMS and reinstalled DAZ Stduio again thru DIM.

    Thanks.

This is the second helpful post in 24-hrs that have set things straight for me. The other was a lack of optimization for my viewport settings.

    General question.
Do you have a "lot" of content?
Is it located directly on the hard drive.
Further do you have several Runtimes?

Can't tell who you directed this at? If it was me, I have lots of content and multiple runtimes across local partitions and external hard drives.

DIM is located on the C drive along with DAZ Studio, Carrara 8.5 Pro, etc.

In my case DIM didn't install the newer CMS and I know I had an older version installed and, also, I just noticed a Start and Stop CMS service commands that were not there before (uninstalling the older version manually allowed DIM to install the newer one [I had to uninstall and reinstall DIM]).

All in all my setup is working fine now as it should have been from the start.

Apology for confusion, as long as it is working.
    Luck!

Goto the mini Menu on the Content Library tab (four lines and arrow) From the Drop down choose Content DB Maintenance. From the Pop up menu do EXPORT USER DATA. (I do this Weekly) then you can recover all Metadata and Categories plus other user created metadata at RE-Import Metadata whenever your CMS DataBase needs fixed for any reason. Just tick USER Data on at Re-Import.

You on a PC or Mac? If on a PC something on your system is shutting down the CMS as a None allowed service. If on a Mac I'll get our Mac guy in here to see if they can help.

TIP: On a PC the First thing to check is your Anti Virus program, second is your Firewall and then the OS itself.

You need to provide what Jaderail asked for before we can provide with a solution....

But I repeat, operating system. Also, provide the .vlog from your last run, will help diagnose the problem.

CMS stopped working again... in the middle of creating a scene... It has happened to me 20 or more times over the last year sometimes I can get it running for awhile months even then poof it goes again.
This time uninstalled CMS, renamed data base, uninstalled DAZ3D, re-installed newest release of DAZ3D and restarted program... nothing.
I have tried several combinations and the best I can get is directories in smart content with just the folders and no content. To be honest I can still use the regular libraries but I've really gotten to depend on the smart content for some items and finding all the pieces to a specific item (ie item, mats, poses, props and so on) can be mind numbing in certain cases.

I found answer was step 8 in another post.. I had to delete the entire directory inside ProgramData/Daz 3D/Content Management Services/Databases . Once I deleted all inside databases poof it worked again.
Found the post by Admin fixmypcmike. Worked for me.

    1) If you haven’t exported user data recently, do that first, so you can restore the categories that are still working.
    2) Close DS and uninstall CMS.
    3) Reinstall CMS by running the installer in C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms (if you have DIM installed) or by reinstalling DS. That will give you the latest CMS, which will reduce the chances of the problem recurring.
    4) Search for the file ContentDB.ind—if you let CMS install to the default locations it will probably be in Program Files (x86) or ProgramData. I would search your entire hard drive with “Hidden and System Files” visible, in case you have more than one set of databases, which could also cause problems. That file is the index for the database.
    5) Stop CMS and delete ContentDB.ind, then start CMS and launch DS. Let DS rebuild the index—it might take a minute or two.
    6) Scan for new content and categorize it.
    7) Close and restart DS, and see if the categorized items are staying. If they are, you should be good to go.
    8) If newly-categorized items are still disappearing, close DS, stop CMS, and delete all the files in the databases folder. Restart CMS, launch DS, and re-import metadata to get your user data back. It can take a long time, so don’t panic if it seems to be taking a long time and the progress bar isn’t moving.

Yes, sometimes to reinstall you need to remove it.
