4.11 Slower renders and white spots

I'm sure this has probably been covered somewhere recently, but since updating to 4.11 my iray renders are way slower, and almost every time I end up with white spots, or 'fire flies'.

I hope this is just a matter of tweaking some settings, because I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new graphics card.  At the moment I'm running a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, on a i5 7500 16GB.

Is it possible to install 4.10 as well?  It was working beautifully before this.

It would be good to have an option to keep the older version of DS as well as trying the new, at the time of updating.  Or at least get a warning that the updated version might not run as well on smaller machines (not all updates slow your machine).  I've read that it's hard to impossible trying to get the old version back.  At the moment I'm working on a graphic novel and was relying on the fast (and no white dots) render times to get pages done quickly.  Now I have to spend time repairing renders in Photoshop to get rid of white dots.

My render speeds are the same or slightly faster, but the white spots are driving me crazy. It covers almost everything at times. Doesn't matter what lighting I use, HDRI, etc. Light or dark scenes it doesn't matter. Very frustrating and I'm probably going to reinstall 4.10 and just deal with the jumping viewport frustrations. I have for the longest time anyway.  I'm glad I downloaded a copy of 4.10 otherwise not sure what I'd do. The denoiser in 4.11 does nothing for the white spots. It clears up everything else though.

The beta does that, and the beta continues to be available even after it has also gone to the General Release channel.

Version 4.11 requires a minimum Nvidia driver of 418.81. If your driver is older than that, then rendering will be CPU only.

Is it possible for me to get the beta or general release installer for 4.10?

I'm afraid it's not available for download anymore now that 4.11 is released, only the latest version of the general release and beta are available.

You can always try opening a support ticket, but there's no guarantee support will be able or willing to provide you with a copy.

My render times do seem rather slow with the latest 4.11 update (as of 18-06-19) and I have noticed more fire-flies, particularly in the irises of my characters. I use dual Nvidia 1080s.

I upgraded the graphics driver through the nvidia website.  It renders faster, but I'm still getting the white dots.

Please also see the discussion below. It seems that the new fireflies only happen when the denoiser is on. I was guessing that it could be due to caustics. This would also explain why they happen in eyes and glass in general.

How does one know if the denoiser is on? I searched "denoiser" in the render settings, but all I got was the post-processing denoiser. That was already switched off, yet I'm still getting fireflies.

    Under: Render Settings / Filtering

Both these settings should be ON if you want denoiser:

    Post Denoiser Available

    Post Denoiser Enable

4.11 is much, much faster with denoiser and IMHO it is not bad for skins as long as you don't shorten the number of iterations to much. I have not seen the white spots others have had so far.
