Loading scenes, props, hair, clothes - total newb

I used to work in AutoCAD and always tried to make my insertion point for things x=0, y=0. When I load Genesis, it comes in at what I am ASSUMING is 0,0 (the cross of the 2 whitest lines of my DS background).
Why do many scenes, props, clothing and hair come it at other insertion points?
Are there any suggestions for standard practice that would make inserting objects a little easier?
Also.. are there FAQ's written that explain any kind of standards of file management for items done in Poser vs. DS?
It seems I am looking in folder after folder to find things I've purchased. Clothes are in a Props folder, Hair in Poses, etc....
Thanks to all in advance.

You should not have hair in a Pose folder.

DAZ 3D Characters before Genesis were all in Poser Format (V3, V4, M3, M4 etc ). You will find them in the Content Library under Poser Formats > Figures.

There are basically two kinds of Pose files, ordinary poses which 'pose' the character as you would expect, and MAT poses, which apply a different texture to the already loaded item. This is the way it was done in older versions of Poser, to avoid having to use the Material room. Somebody discovered that a pose file could be used to change the texture easily, and so MAT poses were used.

Objects generally will load at the 0,0,0, position, unless they are Smart Props, which load at the correct position for the character they were intended for. Most of the Dream Home objects, load in the correct position so that they make up a complete house.

When loading from the Content Library, you can hold down the Alt key, and use drag and drop to load items. You will see a 'target' in the viewport, and when you release the mouse button, the item will insert there.

Hope that helps a bit for now.

Thank you JimmyC! It does! Heading into the User Guide as we speak. That hopefully will explain some file management issues as well.
FYI I do not use my own folder construct. I just let the DAZ Installer do it's thing and put things where it wants.
