Where are the base figures located in the file directory. (G2, G3)

Grabbed a couple free third party morphs recently. Readme file says to copy them to the folder where your base figures are installed. I thought that would be easy. Went to my DAZ libarary, it seems to just have Addams i e purchased and not the base figs. Went to the program file folders, can’t seem to find them there either.

can anyone tell me what I am missing?

What they usually mean is to use the same base Library folder. DAZ3D installers have a top-level folder called "Content" that will correspond to the library folder you have set up with DIM, or at least within DAZ Studio (default is C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library, if you haven't changed it). Below that is the usual DAZ Studio format folder structure: data, Animals, Architecture, Environments, People, Props, runtime, etc., as required.

Third-party product might have a top-level folder called Content or maybe My Library, or just jump right in with data, Animals, Architecture, Environments, People, Props, runtime, etc. Since they are not directly useable in DIM, they must be manually dropped into the library folder. Just make sure you drag everything under Content (but not Content itself) into the same level in the library folder, where similar folders are located.

If the free morphs were properly packaged up, they should contain a Content Library structure as Northof45 stated. However, sometimes they do not. In the latter case it is important to look at the file extensions used. If the morphs are simply supplied as a single file with a .dsf file extension, they belong in the "data" folder of your Content Library. Where within the subfolders of the data folder will depend upon the figure that the morphs are designed for. If they are for G8F, for example, they would go into data/DAZ3D/Genesis8/Female/Morphs/

If, on the other hand, the file is in a .duf format, it is probably a character morph that includes textures that loads everything in one go. That file, if, once again for G8F, would belong in People/Genesis 8 Female/Characters/. If textures are included and not packaged in a Runtime/Textures/ folder, you could open the .duf character file and look for the texture references there to tell you where to put them.

Improperly packaged content can be a real pain when encountered, but, hey, free is free, right? Hard to complain.

Unlike Daz's 4th generation figures the Genesis line of figure do not need to have morphs loaded to the same library/folder as the base they are for, they will work from any properly linked library.  I prefer to make separate libaries for each site I get products comes from, by doing this if find my base figure is loading strangely I can systematically unlink a library til the problem goes away thus determining where the problem may lie.

  • Thank you to all 3 of you for helping to clarify that a lot. It helps out a ton. Makes sense so I'm sure it will work when I get a chance to try later.
