Does "Compression" Help with Clarity and Detail?

I need to create LARGE renders. many products seem to be fine for small cartoons and graphic novels but when you render 4k x 3k pixels I lose clarity and detail. I see in the forums that changing the "Compression" may help but I cannot find where this setting is located. Thanks for any help.

My typical base size for renders is ~5000px and for closeup portraits I use a texture compression of 4096/8192. For everything else I use 2048/4096, and there have been a few occasions when I've used 4096/4096.
