    Thank you. :)

You are welcome, @marcelle19. It took me a long time get comfortable with posing. I think it's much easier with the G3/G8 figures. G2 wasn't bad, but G1 and earlier figures just refused to cooperate with my newbie attempts. I imagine them posing themselves, with thumbs in their ears, waggling fingers, tongues stuck out. (Far beyond my capabilities at the time! lol)

    You'll get there.

It's much easier to modify a pose that is almost what you want than start from scratch. Though once you get the hang of it, posing from the default pose isn't so bad.

Learning posing is worth it in the end. I had a good tutor early on that helped me see the flaws in what I was doing (weight distribution is critical for full body poses). Even if you start with pre-packaged poses, if your characters aren't exactly the size of the defaults that they used, you're probably going to need to adjust them a little. Just figure out where in your workflow it should fall. I typcally "block" my characters into the scene using presets, saving the fine tuning until I have my final camera framing, etc. Otherwise you run the risk of chasing a lot of little fixes that you'll never see from the camera's point of view.

And then, just wait until you lose your mind and decide to do something like I did in the image below. Curling the dragon around the girl took me almost 2 nights of work to get it just right. So many bones and adjusting one made everything else twist and turn!

    NEW QUESTION:

I've downloaded assets - figures and things - and I can see them in my Content Library, but not in my Smart Content, and I can't load some of them.

    Help?

    Thank you.

Moderators, can you join my threads together into one thread?

From Daz or third-party content? How did you isntall? Most freebies and content from other stoes will not have the metadata that enambles the database driven views, including Smart Content, to show it and even if it does it is unlikely to auto-load the data.

  • marcelle19marcelle19 Posts: 171

Installed most from the Daz Install manager. Bought a couple from third party - won't be doing that again.

Got the Victoria 4 packages and can't see any of them in Smart Content (Products).

I unchecked the box (Filter By Content) and that seems to have worked to allow the Victoria 4 to load into the Smart View. Still figuring this stuff out.

Weird - when I clicked on the Victoria 4, it opened a box that allows me to log in, showing all included assets for the sets, but my password doesn't work in that box? Same password as I have here.

    Thank you.

Sounds as if it isn't installed (according to the database), though in fact Victoria can't yet be installed through DS - it has to be DIM or manual.

I installed Victoria using the DIM. I have no idea how to do the manuel install thing.

Still don't know why I can't log in using the same password. Doesn't seem to allow a recover password function in that box, either.

Merge them all, and title THIS STUFF IS NOT EASY, please.

    There you go

There you go? Is there a link there?

Sorry, not trying to be snarky, I just don't see a link where the thread are merged.

By the way, is religious discussion allowable in this forum?

Merged just mean that the threads are merged together into one thread

Religious and Political discussions are a big No No.    Please do read the ToS    bullet point #15

Thank you. Sorry I didn't get back more immediately - my system crashed shortly after the last post I made some months ago, and I just am getting back to downloading everything again. Thank you for your informative and kind replies.

  • Welp, reinstalled and even though it is the same computer, nothing seems to be working right. Used Install Manager to install all my packages, and opened up DAZ3d, and some packages showed while others didn't - some said UPDATE on them in the DAZ3d program, so I clicked that, and some did update, others didn't.

Reinstalled all the packages with Install Manager again, opened DAZ3d, and now I get this little thing, and nothing shows in my Smart Content Pane, whether it's on Files or  (some stuff pops up in the content library time to time - how do I export from there to Smart Content?).

What do you think - uninstall everything and try again? (Didn't have these problems the first time I installed some months back.)

It's funny, every time i see the title of this thread i get a chuckle because technically, is it VERY easy when you think about how much DAZ has done with the figures, tech and DS to make it all work as it does over using a traditional modeling app like Maya to do the same tasks which is very much harder and time consuning than doing it in DS.

Wow, that is such a helpful comment. Thank you.

That's not a fair comparison.  Maya is a 3D modeller, and DS is mainly a pose and render tool.  I would rather spend my time posing and rendering than doing anything else, so all of that other stuff should be hidden from the user.

It's very fair and accurate. both work with 3D mesh at the core, which is akin to virtual putty. Maya is a full purpose commercial 3d app and to get clothing, hair and other mesh parts to work like they do in DS is next to to impossible. DS makes all the mesh work together almost seamlessly which is an amazing feat and as such DS users, especially those that have never used a modeling app get spoiled thinking that is normal for 3D, which it isn't. In summary, DS makes working with mesh in this way, extremely user friendly as opposed to doing it the traditional way.
