How do you get the Viewport angle or object to stop following the cursor?

I cannot figure out how to stop a posing object, or how to get the panning view to STOP moving.
I have tried every keystroke under the sun, plus double-click, single click, super-long pauses... It doesn't matter what I do, it keeps following the pointer (I'm using a stylus). I get the perfect position, angle, or pose and then I can't get it to "take".
Whatever is activated keeps following the pointer indefinitely, even if it's way off the window.
What's the secret?

Have you tried using a mouse, in case it's a stylus issue?

I don't even have a mouse. I do mostly graphics. It's not comfortable or efficient trying to draw with a bar of soap. I haven't used a mouse in over 10 years and it's never caused any problems with other graphics software.
Wendy, it's not the movement that's a problem, it's the fact that after I have moved and positioned something, there's no way to "set" it, to make it STOP moving. I had several of my friends, most of whom are programmers, try it and they all did the same things I did. They tried the Return key, the ESC key, the Tab, and then various control and alt combinations. Not a single one could figure out how to get the prop or the viewport pan to STOP moving once they had it positioned correctly.
I looked at the manual. It explains how to select it, how to move it, but not how to stop the movement. The item (or viewport) just keeps following the cursor indefinitely.
It should stop as soon as the "button" (contact of stylus on tablet, I assume) is released - that it doesn't implies that DS is not correctly reading, or the device is not correctly notifying, the change of state. Can you not borrow a basic USB mouse to test with?
I'm baffled as to why it doesn't work. I use graphics software all day, 3d and 2d, and have done so for years, and I've never seen an interface behave like this. My computer friends were just as mystified. I use a WACOM tablet, which is a common brand.
I will try to get my hands on a mouse but I don't plan to use a mouse. It might help me determine what's going on, however.
I just tried with my Intuos pro 3 and didn't have any issues with view maniplation or object movement. I don't usually use the tablet with DS, and I do have a mouse connected to the machine, but it didn't seem to cause issues. Have you customsied your driver settings for the Wacom? If so have you tried selecting DS in the driver's application list and resetting its settings?

That's a good idea. I haven't tried that. In fact, I've been too busy with work to try anything. I will give that a shot.
