Strand-Based Hair: Beyond the basics

Thanks to DivaMakeup's wonderful mini-tutorial and lots of experimentation, I've become pretty comfortable working with the new strand-based hair feature. At the same time, I've started learning how to create products, work with metadata, etc., so I'm now getting much deeper into the weeds than I have before with Daz. I have a few questions:
1) Is it possible to create morphs for SBH-based hair that would, for example, add/remove sideburns, change hair length, and so on? If so, how? I've had success autofitting SBH-based hair across figures by converting the hair to a figure, but then I can't edit the SBH parameters any more.
2) No matter what color settings I enter into the SBH dialogue box, it always comes out the same. I've spent a lot of time messing with the surface settings and have learned how to get the shades I want, but then I lose out on the root darkening, salting and peppering from the dialogue. Are other people having the same problem? Is there a setting I've missed, or something wrong with my install?
Comments
1) no, I'm afraid not. dForce hair does support morphs, but not the non-dyanmic hair we have.
2) The featreus you mention are for the 3delight hair shader, they aren't supported in the Iray shader.
Well, balls. Is the inability to add such morphs to SBH-based hair an absolute limit of the technology or (inasmuch as you can say) something that’s planned for future release? For that matter, will the tools for making dForce hair be available to the public at any point in the foreseeable future? As to the second point, could those features be converted from a 3Dl texture into Iray after the fact? If so, which converter would you recommend?
Thanks for the answers.
I don't know if it could be added, but there's certainly nothing stopping you from putting in a feature request (via Techncial Support ticket). As for the conversion tools, I have no idea but I would be surprised if it happened soon.
I'm not aware of a way to bake from the 3Delight shader to a map or procedural that sould be used in Iray - the two don't even use the same surfaces, so it would be pretty tricky to bring off I fear.
What are the texture sets for? I've experimented with using multiple texture sets within a single SBH instance, and don't see a purpose for them. My impression was that they would be used to create different zones for more advanced styling, but 1) the resulting hair only shows one texture set, 2) most of the settings are universal across all texture sets, and 3) the "color" texture sets don't seem to do anything at all.
They are sets to cope with the multiple overlapping (or UDIM) tiles used in human mappings. They can be used to control hair properties or provide colour.
