DIM disappeared-got it back

I got a notice to update DIM a week or so ago and all went fine. All my destination folders/drives resolved perfectly. I have been purchasing almost dailiy with the sales and this morning, I got no response when I went to Download and Install after paying for the content. So I went looking for it and it was GONE from my drive. The shortcut on my desktop was GONE... but when I went to re-install from the current .exe file, it said it detected a version and uninstalled it. So then I had to start the exe again to install the same version again. Weird.
More weird is that there is no DIM logo in the shortcut... it's a generic windows icon. DIM works, but something went wrong. Why did it disappear? Why could I not find it in its proper place? Why when I re-executed the installation did it say there WAS a version on my machine when I could not find it in it's proper home? And where's the logo branding for the shortcut? (Same in the program file in Start menu, no branded icon). I don't care as long as it works... just don't want to have it repeat this.
I am on Windows 7 and got a notice to run a Windows Defender update, but I did not do it as I don't use Defender. Is this a Windows driven issue?

ETA: When I right click for properties, that dialogue window shows the branded logo there. Just not on the actual shortcut.

I've not noticed it happen with DIM but Windows does seem able to lose the icons for applications in the Start menu, all my Adobe applications (among others) just had a blank earlier in the week.
Cheers, Richard. OK, guess it's just one of DAZ's little mysteries. I am not installing Windows Defender... bad enough W-7 support is coming to an end. I will be going offline with this machine then and keep it as my 2D/3D work-horse.
