Download Manager consistently fails to download

I wanted to install all my purchased content onto a new laptop. I installed 4.11 and DIM, but when I select everything and it starts to download, nothing succeeds, literally every item says "failed to download". It's been this way for several days. My desktop and another laptop on the same account, continue to work fine; it is just this new, third laptop that doesn't work.

I've been careful to not use them at the same time, and it only complained about exceeding my concurrent limit (which I assume is 1) one time while trying to connect to DIM while I was in Daz. But that was after the problem manifested itself.

Anyone know what gives?

Thanks,

Donald

    I assume they all use the same internet connection? Have you checked the permissions on the Downloads folder, or tried chnaging it to a different location (gear icon to open Settings, Downloads tab)?

    @donalddade

    Check your anti virus software. Some of those applications act more like a virus (controlling machine, using cumpute cycles) than an actual virus.

  • Thanks to you both for helping out. To Richard, yes, same connection, permissions seem ok (not sure how permissions work in Windows, but I can create an empty file in that directory). To fastbike1, it doesn't seem to be that... there's nothing in the logs but I could be ignorant of how it works.

    But I found some suspicious things in the log. From the laptop that doesn't work:

    Now,  I understand that SSL certificates can be used just for confidentiality via encryption without a root CA if you don't care about authentication or the connection is being authenticated via some other means, and for that reason, the error might not be fatal. But my desktop that works does not get this error. And it seems unlikely that on a fresh install of Windows 10, what, Microsoft just decided to install a bad root CA?

  • And from the desktop that does work:

    Are you using the same security software on both machines?

  • Yes, at least in the sense that I didn't change any of the settings after installation. But you and fastbike1 are both pointing in that direction, so who knows, maybe I did something different during installation. I'll investigate further; thanks to both of you.
