is there a tutorial for making materials or textures for stranded hair?

I just completed my first stranded hair project, after installing the update 4.11. I didn't have any problems creating the beard. But I can't seem to make a material or Texture for it. I exported it. And I get a material file. So I am guessing it is already UV maped. I used the Gimp for making my textures. But the Gimp doesn't read MTL files. Can someone point me to a tutorial on this subject? Thank you!

No an .mtl file does not mean the object is UV mapped it just means it has at least one material zone applied.

  • I used to he able to make a map. I would export it as a object, imported into wings. Make a UV map, and create a texture. I do it now and, wings just crashes.

Note that material files aren't actually image-type textures, they're recipes in the form of scripts that include pointers to the texture image files that get applied to the parameters in an object's surfaces.

FWIW, I'm not using 4.11 yet, so I don't know what a hair UV is supposed to look like. Have you tried selecting the hair and switching the camera setting (at the top of your Viewport) to "UV View"?
