Duplicate Formulas & extra Morphs installed and in characters - how to clean up?

Gator_2236745Gator_2236745 Posts: 1,312

I started getting the "Duplicate Formulas found in files" error, and it's killing me because scenes take forever to load, and the killer that the pop-up breaks batch rendering.

Looking in the logs I see the source of the error is this particular Genesis 3 Morph directory.

I think at one point I messed up installing or saving a freebie character morph.  It duplicated ALL the Genesis 3 morphs and is over 1 GB in size.

I want to clean this up, but am scratching my head how to do it.  If I delete the directory, I see which morphs fail to load.  I put the files back, and copied the values from those morphs.  I deleted the files again, then dialed the morphs back (except fbmvictoria7hdlv4, I couldn't figure out which one that was).

Loading the character after deleting the files.  The offending morph directory is below, p3d tara:

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/2 move side2side opposite.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/beauty toe hd.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/beauty toe.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/bodythin.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/fbmthin.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/fbmvictoria7hdlv4.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/pbmlunenailssquare.dsf

data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara/pbmwaistwidth.dsf

I saved it (in the state with offending morph files gone), loaded up on the other computer and still get the same error.

Then with the offending files back I tried saving the character uncompressed so I could look at the dsf file in notepad.  I don't see the morph file names in there at all.

How can I clean this out of my characters so I can nuke the files and then hopefully get rid of the error too?

ETA: Thinking about it, I did leave Daz Studio open when deleting/restoring the offending Morph files.  Only opened/closed the character file.  That seems like a mistake.

The error is in the morphs, not the chnbaracter file. it may be duplicate files (though I thought DS could cope with those  - but it's in the Knowledge base tyroubleshooting), it may be two different products with a moprh (or other property) name in common, or it may be an error in the files themselves (for example, from running ERC Freeze twice on the same property). I'm not following what it is you've done to try to resolve the issue.

    Thanks for the reply Richard.

I have this huge directory, data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/p3design/p3d tara.  It's over 1 GB.  It seems whenever whatever was done there it copied all the G3F morphs there.

For some reason, many of the normal morphs reference that directory morphs rather than the normal location.  So when I delete that directory, I get this message that the morph files are missing.

My idea seemed to cure that, but it is time consuming.  Here's what I did:

Delete the offending "p3d tara" directory.

Load scene subset of just my figure, copy the error message of morphs missing.

    Restore offending "p3d tara" directory.

Load scene subset of figure again.  Loads without error.

Copy down morph values from the earlier error message.

Delete the offending "p3d tara" directory again and quit Daz Studio (part I missed that broke the process).

Start Daz Studio again, load scene subset of my figure, and reapply morphs from saved values.

Save figure as scene subset again.

Is there a less time consuming way?

    Not really, that I know.

In case anyone else stumbles in this thread with the same problem, there is a bit of a faster way to fix it.

With the "bad" morphs installed, save Shape Presets with them.  Then after you remove those "bad" morphs & restart Daz Studio, you can apply that Shape Preset to fix them.

I guess it doesn't save the full path or where in the library it is in there, for example "fbmthin.dsf."  After the morphs are fixed up, I assume when it apples ""fbmthin.dsf" it uses the correct morph.  Then saving it out afterwards seems to save the fixed version.

Load scene subset of just my figure...

You can get into trouble with figures saved in Scene files, Subsets, Character Presets and Wearables if you save them with recently added morphs or created properties. Those Presets save any changes you made to the content "embedded" in the preset file. I had those issues in the past with "Duplicate Formulas found" where I had deleted the character Subset and rebuil my custom character with all wearables and saved a new Subset. In those situations Shape Presets can help alot getting your custom character shape transfered from the subset to another scene with the base figure and working morphs loaded from the content direrctory and not embedded from the saved preset.

Thanks for the info.  I want to re-install Daz Studio as well hopefully to fix an issue with Genesis 3 male joint bends.

I've restored the files and am creating Shape Presets for all my characters.  Scene Subsets are just so handy to add in to a scene, and it's all there - shape, materials, clothing, custom morphs, etc.

After I'm done saving the Shape Presets I'll archive that morph directory, clean up & re-install.

Reading this now. I can say the paths you mentioned are not included in my character. I advice to delete all corrupt files and reïnstall my character. Hopes this helps out a bit.

  • @P3Design - sorry I haven't replied back.  Thanks for the info.  I'm guessing it had to do with me or customizing one of your figures then incorrectly saving it out again (possibly as a morph rather than simple shape preset?) I'm not sure.
