Daz on a external drive

I was planning on moving all my daz content onto a external drive, just a couple questions though

1. Does it make Daz run slower on a external drive

2. is there anything else I need to do besides changing install path in DIM and Daz

if anyone has step by step instructions that would help also

I assume you mean Daz Studio. Loading content may be a little slower, depending on access speed, but in gerenal I would not expect issues - though you do, of course, need to be careful that the drive letter remains the same.

Will your assets load more slowly? Possibly. Depends on what drives you are moving the assets from and to and what the connection is. If you are using a slow HDD now then moving to a fast HDD over a USB 3.0 or 3.1 connection it should befaster. If you're moving from an SSD to a slower HDD over a USB 2.0 connection it will be a lot slower.

If you don't need to move the drive around you should get an internal drive and install it in the PC. It will be cheaper and installing is very simple.

  • I have done this with mixed results. Basically it depends on product, available memory, phsyical drive, and computer processing speed.

I have everything on a 2TB external to regain some harddrive space. I'm planing to do this on my laptop, moving everything from my 2TB SSD main, to my 2TB SSD second drive.

Daz products take up a lot of space and I'm needing to do this before I totally lose any space to run other programs.

I am new to Daz Studio, however, I knew I could not fit everything on my computer hard drive.  So, I have several liabraries for different types of things.

I use Windows Exployer to set up my Libraries.

    I install everything manully.

You can call these files anything you want to.  Daz Studio is happy as long as it sees a "data" file there.  Then, of course, "runtime" for textures.

Name the files anything you want in between.  I have one file called "Fabiana," because I want all of her things in one place.

I am at work, however, message me to go further with pictures.

Then, you go to Daz Studio Program, right click under DazStudio Libraries and add a Library, I believe it says.  Add as many as you set up.

It's a very wonderful way to keep your things organized FOR YOU.  I'm 64 and I need to put things where I can remember them.

So far, only "Look At My Hair" products are slow to load.  However, that could be just the way it is.

Daz Studio is so very understanding.  I like that!!!

    This works perfect for me!!
