Serious performance hit using dforce strand based hair

Hi,

Please correct me if I understand this right. There are 2 types of 'tech' used for dforce hair. The one olds are 'cloth based' ,such as classic long hair, and the more recent one, 'strand based' like the long drape hair.

Issue I'm facing right now, loading the long drape hair into the character, and just moving the camera around (non iray preview) and dragging the animation timeline or even clicking on a specific frame requires ~10 seconds before the screen will response. Hiding the long drape hair does nothing, performance is still the same, only by removing it completely does the performance return to normal. Any advice?

Just to put things in context, the art I'm doing remains the same, I have completely isolated this issue to the long drape hair. Using a 4 series i7 with 32gbram, dual 1080.

Is this using the Iray preview mode or one of the other modes?

The strand hair set to the non iray mode, just to confirm, setting this will make this object equivalent to invisible in iray preview (I don't know which exact parameter in the material that causes this, its no opacity). I'm just moving the camera/frame around in shaded texture mode.

Even in a complete test environment: with a single g8, simple dress, and one strand hair, after animating a 120 frame movement, jumping around the frames or moving the camera causes up to 10 sec before the new frame kicks in. I didn't touch any default settings in the material.

As a comparison, without strand hair, using a normal dforce cloth based hair, 2 g8, a room, with up to 300 frame, moving the frames around in near instantenous. Hope this helps, its quite a nice object to use, and surprisingly it animates faster than cloth based, but the performance hit in other area is insane.
