Hi
I am not a newbie to Carrara but I am a newbie to using a human form in Carrara. Yesterday it was suggested I purchase and download a Daz Lo rez man . I did and I'm happy with this purchase. I was a bit intimidated my all the bits and pieces of m-4 and v-4 so I never even downloaded it. It was suggested I give m-4 a shot. Almost all of my work I have modeled in Carrara so I would like to avoid the whole DIM issue ( I am running Carrara 8.1 Pro)
When I installed Lo rez man I just dragged the runtime folder ( created when I expanded the zip folder) into my Carrara 8 folder and all seemed good.
So my question is. What is the proper procedure for installing M-4 and V-4 in this scenario manually without using Dim.
Thanks In Advance

In previous versions of Poser, which is where the whole runtime folder structure came from, the internal library could only show x number of items per category, Figure, Hands, Pose, etc., so it became customary to create separate folders, give them any name you like, and copy the "runtime" library from the zip into whichever folder you wanted it sorted into. This became a popular method for organizing content, as well. So many of us, for example, would put M4 and all of his supplement products into a single folder: "M4". If you don't have a lot of Poser type products, or you don't mind everything mixed together in the same library, doing it te way you have is perfectly fine.

In my organizational example above, a common way to do this is to go to the root of any drive on your system. I always choose the largest and fastest - since I have a lot of content that uses this structure.

Now in the root of a drive, create a folder. Mine is simply called: "DAZ", others call it "Content" or something similar, but it can have any name you like. Inside that new folder, create several new folders. I'll use my content collection as an example:

Here is a list of example folders I've made inside of my "DAZ" folder, which resides at the top level of my "C" drive:

    Animals
    Environs
    Dragons
    M4
    M3
    Mil
    V4
    V3

I think I actually have more - and I made new, temporary folders once in a while, simply so that I can inspect the contents of a single product. So each of the above lines is a separate folder. Now when ever I open a zip of a product, I find the folders "Runtime" and "ReadMe's" and drag both of them into the folder of its type. So if I'm installing Hair for V4, I drag the Runtime and ReadMe's folders into the V4 folder, which resides inside my "DAZ" folder. If that hair also works for V3, then I also drag those folders into the V3 folder, so I have it available when looking for stuff for my V3 figure.

Aiko 3, Stephanie 3 and The Girl are all based on V3 technology, so I install those to the V3 folder. Same with David 3 and The Freak, which would go into M3. Aiko 4 goes with V4, Hiro 4 goes with M4, etc., Some folks make separate folder for A3, H3, etc., instead of combining them with Michael and Victoria - to each their own method of organization - which strongly depends upon how you buy things and how and when you'd like to use them. Which brings us to my next example:

My Environs folder is filled with many different types of content. It started off as a place for scenery items and full scenes, like the Generic Sci Fi Corridor, Millennium Environment, and so on. But then I was thinking of where to put smaller items, like lamps, piles of rope, boxes, etc., and decided that, since I'll want these items while building up scenes, I want to see the content along with the rest of my scene making products. So now I put medicine bottles, bathroom products, and all other things that don't fit easily in with the rest, directly into the Environs folder.

See if that helps... ask if you need to know more. I can talk for days on this ;)
