Lock Unlock Selected Nodes Questions

I can click on the litle checkmarks beside body parts, as shoulder and forearm, turning the checkmarks to little xs. Does that lock those nodes? I've tried the node selection tool, and I don't see any difference. If, in the parameters tab, I choose "Lock Selected Nodes (Pose)" or "Unlock Selected Nodes (Pose)," I don't see that anything happens to the little checkmarks or the little xs. Should I see a difference? So, if I want to move part of a figure's body, but not let the left colar, shoulder, forearm, hand, and fingers move (as an example), I've been manually changing all of those checkmarks to xs in the Scene Tab. Then, I have to go back and change all the little xs back to checkmarks. Is there a faster way to do this?

Also, if I should choose "Lock Selected Nodes (Shape)" or "Unlock Selected Nodes (Shape)," what is the difference supposed to be between Pose and Shape? Does it mean that the shape can't be morphed if the node is locked?

That controls whether the node is selectable by clicking on it in the Viewport. You should be able to multi-select items for locking or making selectable (the latter has a button in the Parameters pane)

Can I click on names or nodes in the Scene pane, and then, in the Parameters pulldown, choose to lock them? And later, unlock them? I don't understand how I would multi-select items in the Parameters pane?

I have another question: If I want to lock a hand, including all of the nodes for the fingers, and select the hand in the Scene pane, can I click on just the hand, or do I have to open up each finger and each part and then lock them? Or, is there a way to lock the entire hand with one click in the Parameters pane?

The little x marks in the Scene pane just control whether the item is selectable in the viewport by clicking on the item in the view port. It doesn't lock or unlock movement. You control bone rotation locking in the Parameters pane with the padlock icon. V3Digitimes has an EXCELLENT product called Ultimate Pose Mixer that assists with locking and unlocking multiple bones at one time.

    Edit: fixed my terrible spelling.

OK, I'll check out Ultimate Pose Mixer. Thanks for the response. But, again, if I select items in the Scene Tab and then go to the Parameters Pull-Down and choose lock selected items (rotation), or something like that, does that lock the items? Also, if I use the padlock icon in the Parameters Tab or Pane, and I choose Left Hand (as an example), will it lock all of the parts of the left hand, down to the three parts of each finger? Or, do I have to choose each part separately?

It will do just what it says. It will lock SELECTED nodes. If you want to lock the hand and all finger joints, select the hand, right click and choose Select Children. Now all the hand and finger  joints are selected and you can lock them all at once.
