daz takes very long time to save scene

Hi,
hope someone can help with this:

once again, daz for me takes a long time to be ready after saving a scene. so the saving itself seems to be fine, but then it takes many minutes before i can use daz again (i.e. i can click on stuff)

i've had this situation on and off, and i don't know what it depends on. when i don't have this issue, i save and can instantly use daz again. it's nothing to do with the scene itself, because it is with any scene, so it's as if it's something with the disk that suddenly changed?

thanks for any input

also saving on other drives does work fast. just randomly it started to happen to this one hard disk. i've had it before...

My initial reaction is that if it is just one HD, then it's likely an issue with that drive. A couple of questions/suggestions (I'm a PC/Windows guy, not a Mac guy; so if this is a Mac, some of these may not help):

    1. Is the drive starting to get full? A full drive can make it harder to find empty space to save your files. Typically we like to see at least 10% free on a drive.
    2. Have you run a defrag against the drive? Similar to #1, when a drive's freespace gets fragmented, it can signficantly affect access times, especially for saving.
    3. Check the drive for errors, this could be the initial indications of an impending failure. If the heads are getting out of alignment or some physical issue is happening with the disk, then the OS has to keep retyring to find a place that it can save your data.

If none of the above seem to apply, then the next thing I would do is to bring up Task Manager, click on the Performance tab, and see what the bottleneck is. Is it CPU or Disk that is maxing out? From there you can also launch Resource Monitor which will show you which processes are maxing out the bottleneck resource.

thank you for your response (i'm talking about WIN)

the drive is not getting full, it's actually only a few weeks old

maybe a hint: if i save over an existing file, this doesn't happen

i'll take a look with task manager - not sure if the screenshots are helpful? so DAZ is not responding - that takes a couple of minutes

oh boy, my poor memory didn't know i had already asked this question here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/2304831/ and had forgotten about it. i didn't get a definitive answer then, but i think i found it now. i'll put my reply in the original thread.

    thanks
