Studio Suddenly Slow and Unresponsive

Hey all,
I've been working with Daz for sometime now with no issues. My desktop is a newer rig (specs below). After purchasing, downloading, and installing quite a bit of content today, I noticed that loading Ryker for Genesis 8 was taking an unusual amount of time; probably 30 or 40 seconds. Applying materials was taking equally as long. At times, the app would be become unresponsive and crash. Additionally, when I decided to work on a different character I've developed, I noticed when I attempted to load content, I'm getting messages that the content needed is not installed (human mat for Katarya elf).
I decided to uninstall and reinstall studio; no changes. I checked my windows updates, drivers, and they are all up-to-date. I checked my internet connection, which is stable.
Any thoughts or ideas on what the seemingly sudden glitch might be?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jason

Uninstalling and reinstalling won't chnage any settings. This does sound as if there could be an issue with your content paths or the Content Management System - have you edited your content directory settings? Have you checked that the files/folders haven't moved on disc? What is the exact error you are getting? If you check the log file (Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File) what do you see between the entry saying that the file is being loaded and the end of the log?
Hi Richard,
Thank you for taking the time to respond!
I've looked over the file paths for DIM installation and my program files, and it doesn't look like any file destinations have changed or moved, and I have not manually been in my program file moving files.
Here are some examples of the text from the log when I lag-out:

you need to check that DS still thinks the paths to your content are still the actual paths, this strikes me as unlikely but you should check it anyway.
Next you need to verify all of your hardware's health. Get memtest and check your RAM, get a drive health program and check the drives DS, your content and OS are installed on. Run a stress test on your CPU.
I'm betting that one of your drives is failing.
Hi Ken,
Thanks for your ideas! This particular rig is about a month old. That's not to say something couldn't be faulty or failing.
So, I ran Windows diagnostics, Mem64, and SSD Life; they all come back with a great bill of health.
I should probably add that the freeze-ups and crashes only seem connected to the Genesis 8 figure Ryker. I can switch pretty quickly between all other Genesis figures, toss on clothes, hair, etc; but, when I load Ryker, the system grinds to nearly a halt, and it's a chore to set him up... 10 times out of 10, the studio will run incredibly slow; probably 7 times out of 10 it will become unresponsive; and, occasionally it will crash. Then, after trying to work with him, when I try to load other figures, the problems persists.
Maybe the solution is to just avoid working with Ryker; however, I paid for the figure...I should be able to work with him.
Thanks for trying to help! I really appreciate it.
Best,
Jason
Try uninstalling the figure and reinstalling it. If you installed it through DIM make sure you also delete the local zip of it, that can be done from inside DIM as well as the initial uninstall.
If that doesn't fix the problem submit a bug report and if you don't get a prompt response from Daz just submit a refund request. Daz has a no questions asked 30 day refund policy.
Hi Ken,
Thank you for taking the time to look this over and reply again!
I uninstalled the Genesis 8 Ryker figure and deleted the zip file, then reinstalled him. Loading his Actor character is still oddly slow; though it didn't freeze up studio as it normally has, but I only tried to load him and add a few materials to see what would happen.
Your suggestion made me consider a test/workaround: It seems if I load the basic Genesis 8 figure, then add materials from Ryker, it's much faster. I think the workaround of basic Genesis 8 and adding Ryker's materials might be a solution, but I think I'll still submit a bug report as you suggested; this seems odd to me.
I'd really hate to ask for a refund and delete the Ryker character. He works perfectly for the project I'm working on. Although, I'd rather get work done than sit in frustration at studio lagging and crashing continually whenever I try to work on him or bring him into a scene. /sigh
Great suggestions! Thank you!
Jason
Ryker takes a really long time to load, not sure why.
I have also found that Armstrong takes a long time to load too.
Most of the Genesis 8 figures are pretty quick to load. There's just a few out there that are slower.
Ryker is a great figure and comes with nice tattoos, but I know what you mean. Most figures load up in less than 10 seconds, so to wait 30 to 40 seconds can be frustrating.
You can submit a bug report to DAZ, and they do get around to fixing issues.
I reported an issue with the Lil' Scrap Boy taking forever to render. It turns out the default SubD was set way to high on this figure, and DAZ fixed it with an update.
If you use Ryker a lot, I would ask DAZ technical support why it takes so long to load and maybe they can look into it.
The other thing you mentioned is missing files when loading a product.
That could mean that the product requires another product, and is usually stated on the product page.
It's good to get in the habit of checking "Required Products:" on the product page, in case you need to purchase something to support the item you are thinking of purchasing.
Hi Von,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and respond! I really appreciate you taking the time!
It's nice to hear some feedback from someone else that certain figures seem to take longer to load than others. You're right on the money from my perspective: The other figures I've loaded, no matter the generation, load super quick, so it was surprising to me--and concerning--when Ryker consistently took so long and sometimes lagged out. That someone else (and presumably, then, others) have had similar issues gives me some peace of mind that my hardware isn't prematurely failing or that it's not a file issue on my end, et cetera.
I did submit a ticket to Daz, and they responded this morning to ask for my logs; I like how responsive Daz is. It's nice to have good support out there...here in the forums, too.
I do tend to use Ryker a lot; he's a perfect fit for the particular character I had in mind. I have a little bit of a workaround that gets me through the lag issues: I can load a Gen 8 basic and then add Ryker's features. I saved a scene that way, so I have him saved for re-use now. That seems to take care of the lag issues; although, that said, his tatts still take a ridiculously long time to load even on a different figure, so I'm wondering if you're not correct and it's some sort of coding or file issue on the other end.
I had a separate post out there about the missing file issue on a different scene, and someone had answered it. You're right: I just wasn't paying attention to the required products. I don't know how many times I've gone back now and purchased the required items. Gosh. I'll tell you, though: I have gotten into the habit now of checking the required products section of the product pages.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer. I really appreciate it!
Best,
Jason
Your welcome Jason.
BTW. The the Ryker figure uses L.I.E. for eyebrows and facial hair. The tattoos are also L.I.E. That could be the reason he takes so long to load up.
In my experience, any L.I.E. (Layered Image Editor) materials will take a long time to load, however, the nice thing about them is they look realistic and they don't mess with the underlying materials (skin etc.).
So it could be that Ryker takes a long time to load due to the eyebrows and facial hair. You could try loading Ryker, removing those two things, then add another figures eyebrows and optional facial hair and then save the figure. See if the saved Ryker figure then loads quicker.
In fact, you can use any Genesis 8 Male skin on any other G8 male figure, which can sometimes create some interesting effects. The picture attached is The Brute with Wither skin base. A really crazy looking monster is the end result!
Good Luck!
For me L.I.E. elements always take a while to load.
