Additional special cameras

Long time Poser user, but have started dabbling in DS, again. The interface is clunky, to me, probably because I'm just not used to it.

But I'm really missing the body part-specific cameras in Poser; Face camera, right hand, left hand. These are crucial for me to accurately pose these body parts, instead of having to spend a lot of time zooming and rotating, and not having the camera centered on the body part in question.

Is there an add-on or something that will mimic these cameras? Or can I create my own cameras to act in the preferred ways? Though that would be a pain to do for every scene.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well, of course you can make cameras. You can even parent them to various body parts.

You can't have an auto-switching hand or face camera, which will point at the current figure - though it might be possible to write a script that would work in response to a chnage in figure selection. Cmd/ctrl F (Frame) and cmd/ctrl shift A (Aim) may help.

Right, but does that have to be done per scene?

You could create the number of cameras you need, save the scene and make it your default start up scene in preferences/scene/"on new" load file.

The caveat here is if you load a set piece/camera preset/etc. that wipes out the new 'default' cameras.

I'd recommend also saving as a Camera preset, or possibly a scene subset(as subsets don't erase other elements), then adding the preset/subset to the Scripts menu(select item/hover over)>left click>Create custom action) then creating a custom shortcut(F3(default) or Menu bar>Window>Work Space>customize>Action side>Select "Custom" header>Select item>right click, (with item highlighted)>Change Keyboard Shortcut.

Hmm, ok. Lot of work for little return it seems.

Hopefully DAZ will eventually add these specialized cameras to make posing easier.

The ctrl F and A make things a LOT easier! Thanks!

Noe I have to figure out why the character camera, or cameras I add, show a dark scene, can't see a thing even though there is nothing in the way. Only the Perspective camera will show the figures distinctly.

  • Do you have Auto Headlamp off for the lights, but globally set to Only if No lights in Render Settings?

No idea. Where do I find that?

  • In Render Settings it's in the General group, on cameras it's in the Camera or Parameters panes

That the hardest thing I needed to get used to in Studio. My solution was to make a default scene with a primary rendering camera and s econdary camera that I framed on the body part I needed to work on at the moment. It took a while, but I've managed to get used to it. Camera movement in Studio is very different than in Poser and it takes a while to master them.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I prefer using the pespective view for setting up scenes, as it doesn't record the actions.

I do the same Sven, for the same reason.  One Camera to Rule them ALL!!!
