[SOLVED] Changing eye color to a custom shade?

I want to change the color of my Aiko 8 character's eyes to a gold-ish color, which is not found in the texture presets that come with the standalone morph I purchased. I figured that it would be simple enough; just go into the Surfaces > Editor tab, select the corneas, and change a color slider or two. However, I haven't had any luck so far; the color alteration doesn't seem to come through on the render at all. Is there any way to do what I want in DS or Hexagon?
If that's not possible, I'm also very handy with GIMP, so I could export one of the iris texture files, change the color to my liking, and re-import it. I just need to know how to export/import textures from DS so I can color-adjust them.

You can do it in DS.
How depends on what products you own and what skills you have.
The easiest way is to find a shader that is the color you want and apply it to the cornea, if you want to retain the details from the eye texture when you apply the shader use a ctrl-click rather than just a click and a dialog will come up with some option, select images -> ignore.
If you don't have a shader that matches the color you want then you are going to have to do some morer work but the above will definitely work.
So I've gone ahead and made a new texture file by modifying an existing one (it's the yellow-eyes file with a teal highlight around it). Now I just need to know how to make a new material that uses this texture file, so I can select and use it in Daz Studio.
I know that I could overwrite any texture files in use by existing materials, but I'd really rather not, because I'm sure that'll just lead to complications down the road.
It's not the cornea, the cornea is transparent. You need to change iris colour, possibly pupil colour too. :)
Ahhh... :|
Yep.
Which "color slider or two" were you changing?
Also, remember that you're not just limited to eye colours for Aiko 8 — any eye material for any other Generation 8 character will work, and there are eye texture sets for Gen8 that include natural, SF, and fantasy styles.
The easiest way is to go to Surfaces -> Aiko 8 -> Surfaces -> Iris and play with the sliders of Base Color. If that doesn't get you the results you want:
To use custom maps for your eyes:
1) I assume your custom map is based on an existing map. So first load the eyes that your custom map is based on. In other words, if your custom map is based on the blue Aiko 8 map, then load the blue Aiko 8 eyes.
2A) Either go to Surfaces -> Aiko 8 -> Surfaces -> Iris...
2B) ... or go to Surfaces -> Aiko 8 -> Default Templates -> Template 6
3) Whichever you do, under Base Color you have this tiny square with four circles. It's the map that's currently loaded. Click it.
4) Select Browse, go find your custom map. Done!
(2A will only change the map of the Iris, 2B will change all the maps of the entire eye. If you only adjusted the Iris in GIMP you can go with 2A, but if you adjusted other parts of the eye you want to go with 2B)
Works like a charm! Thank you!
I definitely prefer this method, since adjusting the Base Color only allows me to darken the eye (it also looks really spooky in Wire Shaded mode). Replacing the maps gives me a lot more control over the exact appearance.
