animation rendering turns slow (PC too) and falls back to cpu after a while (pls help)
HI,
For animations, I have seen my system was going extremely slow after a while due to going to CPU after a while.
I have had this with just normal scenes aswell. When selecting iray in the viewport to see if all is fine and then hit render all goes well. I can do this up to 3 times without any issues but somehow after a while, it just moves to CPU. (thinking this might be happening to the animation rendering too when it moves to a new frame after doing a few). After a reboot of the system all seems to be fine and working again. (if I don't reboot it won't render with GPU's anymore)
The render I'm going does not exceed any VRAM of the lowest card. For animation, the camera is standing still so it's not getting closer to the figure.
To run the animation quickly is have set quality off. irritation to 300 with denoiser kicking in on 250. Resolution 720P. (only card are selected in Nvidia render options, no CPU selected, Optix is ON)
Current system setup: GTX 1080 TI & 980 TI (with the 1080Ti being in the first PCI slot), intel CPU 4790K 4 Ghz, 32 GB RAM
Driver: 419.17 other drivers don't work all too well as most of them let me fall back to CPU instantly. Before 419.17 I was using 391.35.
But to be able to use the denoiser you need to have a driver from 380.xx or above (correct?). 419.17 was the only one until now that worked for me.
The times between renders are very inconsistent. Where I have the render setup to be 2 minutes long per picture it varies from 2 min. to 20 min.
The render is 215 frames long and at frame 44 my pc was extremely slow when trying to open explorer and or a picture. (nothing else was open except for Daz studio)
This was because of the system/Daz using the CPU and grabbing all system resources.
When I render out some single still frames like frame 44 it renders fine with the only GPU used.
Any idea whats going on here?
