Desaturating the skin can cause it to lose too much detail, particularly in the hands, resulting in skin that looks more like what you would find on the old Ken & Barbie dolls. You also need to consider the skin that is being used. If you're modifying the skin in an art program or editor, keep in mind that a lot of these PAs that are making characters for sale rely on using 2-3+ different merchant resources to put together a single character skin set using gradients to mend them together. While they usually get the gradient between them right, the color is off and/or the brightness is wrong. All too often I find the arms texture lighter than the torso & legs, and the legs have a different color tint in comparison to the arms & torso. Your best bet for making really pale skin is to use Skin Builder.
