It means that you have graduated from Basic to Intermediate Metadata Wizard status. (That, and files are limited to about 32 MB).

Well, it seems like Daz should have sent me a gold star or something.

Okay, but seriously: I've done a little bit of custom categorizing, but not a lot. So I still don't know where more than 32 MB of XML data is coming from that would cause Daz to create a new User_Data file. Oh, well; I'll leave such arcane matters to actual Highest Mucky-Muck Wizards of the Coveted Coding Metadata Mysteries.

  • Each export generates a new file, I think. You can choose which to reimport, if/when you do so

You don't use the RSSY clothing / hair / character converters by any chance? They product a shedload of "User Data". My user data files starting being two-part after I ran a few conversions.

How am I supposed to know what is in which?

I do have and use a few of the converters from time-to-time, but I don't know how to determine whether that is accounting for any of it. I guess I'll read the DS manua— Oh. Never mind ...

The names reflect the order of creation.

The one with the biggest number is the most recent.

Actually I export user data quite often (I do a fair bit of custom categorising, so I need to) and each time I go to the Support library it lands in and rename "UserData_1.dsx" and "UserData_2.dsx" to "UserData_2020_08_05_1.dsx" and "UserData_2020_08_05_2.dsx" (or whatever date it is that day), then if I need to reload through Content DB Maintenance I can see the date easily in the list it gives.

  • I was incorrect - the number of files produced is a fucntion of the amount of data to be exported.

Of coruse you can create new products, which will give a single file for each product.

The metadata from the User isn't necessarily info that you added or modified directly. Anything that you put in a custom category, products that had no metadata included and generated files from those fancy converters (and probably others I can't pinpoint at the moment) are all considered User Data (as opposed to Vendor Data). You would import all of them, not just the last one. Check the dates on the files, they will be overwritten when you export the next time.

If you really want to know what's in them, they are in XML format, so if you have an editor that can collapse the structure to a more readable form, you can see what kind of entries are made. (e.g., Notepad++ has an XML tools plugin; there might be a dedicated XML reader/editor out there somewhere).

    Thanks, Richard.

Yes, I have such an editor (not Notepad; I'm on a Mac), but even so, I can't suss out any sensible rhyme-or-reason for what does and does not get written to either of the existing "User_Data" files on my system.

I do find it rather amusing, though, that something the DPGs* call "User Data" is opaquely indecipharable for mere mortal users. But then, this often happens in the Daz universe:

It's user data as opposed to vendor/product data - the user's own categorisation and files that have not yet been turned into products.

Notepad++ works fine for dsx files.

In the attachment the Notepad++ style for dsx that I have created to see metadata.

I try to attach it but this fails...well, the point is that any text editor can display dsx files and the structure is easy to understand.

I've learnt one big lesson from this - Content Library context menu > Content DB Maintenance > Reset Database is my friend ! wink

Totally Agree.  Use it all the time
