About RTX 2070 performance

Hey everybody,

So right now I have a 1060 6Gb, and been thinking about getting a 2070 with 8Gbs. Questions are: is it worth it? There will be a noticeable increase in performance? the extra 2Gbs in VMEM make any difference?

Keep in mind I'm on Windows 7 and don't plan on going W10 anytime soon.

Any input from you guys that have a 2070 is highly appreciated,

The rest of my system is:

  • R5 2600
  • 32Gb at 2400MHz
  • B450 Tomahawk
  • 600W EVGA PSU

The thread that Chohole posted above is definitely worth keeping an eye on.  There is also this one:

I have a 2070 and in the 4.12 Beta it more than cuts render time when used with my 1080ti versus the 1080ti by itself.

I just upgraded to a 2070 from a 1060, and it is a vast improvement. BUT, there are some major differences to our situation that would affect the outcome. 1. I was using a laptop before, and just got a desktop with a 2070. That's probably a big step up, right there. 2. Both systems are windows 10. That might have an influence, too. Either way, scenes that took 4-5 hours to render that I had to scale back, or reduce material resolution on, render in 1-1.5 hours with their original textures intact! Very happy with that! Take it for what it's worth, but, I'm glad I did it!
